I'm creating a client handout on what to say to stop people from giving their horror stories, bad vibes, disbelief, shock and general rudeness when they hear that a mom is trying for a natural birth.

So... I'm (once again!) soliciting tips.

Hmmm....

So it's giving your clients examples of what to say to people?

Just off the top of my head: "I'm sorry but if you don't have a positive birth story to share with me, I'd rather hear it after my baby is born."

I'll have to keep thinking for more....

yep! I have SO many clients talk about the bad responces they've had.

here is my list so far:

My baby is listening, so please, positive birth stories only!

I donít judge your parenting choices, so please donít judge mine.

Millions of women all over the world have their babies naturally; it is not as rare as you think.

Iím keeping an open mind to many choices about birth and parenting, so weíll see what happens.

Itís my body, my baby and my birth- and I know I can do this!

I am well prepared to face the challenges of birth, although I thank you for your opinion.

I am going to try to have my baby without pain management, but I am open to accepting medication if truly necessary.

I prefer not to discuss my birth plans; I feel that they are a personal part of the journey to parenthood.

Thank you for your concern but I have prepared for my natural birth extensively and have done a good deal of research on the pros and cons of various methods of pain management.

A womanís body is an amazing thing; after all we were made to give birth! I have every confidence that my body can intuitively do this.

Every labor, mother and baby is different. What is right for you is not necessarily right for me.

I love the one about my baby is listening. Very cute! Here's some suggestions.....

I believe fear is one of the biggest opponents to birth so I would appreciate it if you refrained from sharing any negative stories.

I believe in the mantra "Trust Birth", so I would greatly appreciate you sharing anything positive about your birth experience that would help me keep this mantra in mind.

Instead of focusing on the negatives, would you share how you might have overcome any roadblocks in your labor and delivery now that you look back on it?

Besides pain relief, was there anything else that was particularly helpful during your labor and birth, e.i. music, massage, shower, etc.?

I know natural med-free childbirth is not for everyone but I'm confident in my choice and would love to have your support and encouragement.

the one I tend to tell people.. though I don't get horror stories, just the Oh I loved my epidural stories.
I just say something along the lines of well at my hospital there is a 38% chance of c-section, with my midwife there is only about a 3% chance, so I am taking my chances there
