Someone posted "what is natural childbirth" and most of the responders said "birth thru the vagina, not c-section" ACK!!!!!!!! I did post
"natural childbirth is vaginal birth WITHOUT pain meds and no unnecessary interventions. Vaginal birth is any birth, medicated or not, thru the vaginal canal"

That is so sad that so many women think that. But it's so common now to just take the meds and interventions I guess that is what appears to be natural these days. It really does make me sad.

I know!! it is so sad. It is so sad that epidurals and other interventions are so common in almost every single hospital birth

Thanks for correcting that for all of us! I spend plenty of time myself rectifying that misbelief.

this is very common....I had a male friend on a message board (I know him IRL and on this MB) that all birth is natural. His wife "tried" to have a ncb at a bc but "had" to have a section. I don't know the details other than that. I think they were denied the BC because of some sort of pregnancy complication.

Yes, it is sad that many women don't consider there to be a difference between VAGINAL and NATURAL.
I've had a vaginal birth full of interventions, induced with an epi and I've had a natural. Obviously there are HUGE differences, but most women just consider a vaginal delivery to be natural. Sad because often it's the farthest thing from natural! I am starting to stay away from any discussions about epis, episiotomies, pain meds, etc in my DDC because I just get so annoyed and feel like I am just wasting my energy by putting my 2 cents in where it won't be paid any attention anyway.

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine and I told her I felt very strongly about a natural birth. She said "what do you mean natural....like vaginal or like no drugs?" I told her I meant without drugs and as little interventions as possible. She said she couldn't understand why ANYONE would want to do such a thing. And that epidurals were created for a reason and they should be used. She's an ARNP who works in L&D! I was kind of shocked. We got into a conversation about elective induction and I was a bit worried about her response based on her opinion of NCB. However, she did say that it was best left to nature unless there was a medical emergency. I was just sort of disappointed that even if she wouldn't have a NCB, that she wasn't more supportive of my choice/desire to have one.

Well you know...you don't get a medal for going without an epidural

I have had a vaginal birth with an epidural the first time, and without the second time and the difference was night and day. People are just ignorant.

I want one too! Except I don't count my last one as natural since I stupidly let him rupture my membranes and ended up with pitocin (for all of 50 minutes or so).

I have had one epidural birth, one natural and one un-medicated and I have to say the natural and un-medicated were better then the epi BY FAR!

I was induced (for medical reasons) and I still consider mine natural! I'm just proud of myself for getting through it with the pitocin cranked all the way up

They broke my water too, they were trying to speed things up

I personally consider NCB to be no pain meds, but I guess some people might disagree. I'm still getting my medal though
