First of all, let me say how awesome my DH is!! He took my girls to their scout meeting tonight and basically talked down all the women there that think I should have been induced or sectioned already. I didn't go because I didn't want to hear all the comments. He handled it beautifully!! One of the ladies is an L&D nurse at the hospital I would be at if I end up being induced. Basically, she is totally supportive of the "normal"30% c-section rate, ugh!!! DH didn't let it go and spent about 30 minutes talking with her about all the alternatives!!

When I was having my u/s today, the tech did a billion measurements. I was in there for over an hour. She checked his heart, lungs, stomach, placenta, fluid and everything else! She left to have the radiologist come in and go over her images. Sadly, his only comment was "I need to get a good weight". I asked why he said "because dr.s like to know if they need to plan a c-section" . He was a bit frantic even. Kept saying that it's what the dr.s really want to know from these scans!

I started to go through the whole argument with him and then realized, he wasn't the person to take it up with. How sad that with all that is able to be discerned from the u/s that the most important piece of information is this baby's size for the purpose of planning surgery!

My good friend got induced at 42 weeks and they told her it was a 10+ lb baby, he was maybe 8lbs.

Good job DH! You must be proud

WTG for your DH! I would have been so proud of him! I don't blame you for not going to the meeting. I would have been pretty annoyed myself. I'm still surprised they didn't try to force one on me with my son. I had a u/s right before 41 weeks and they estimated he was 9 lbs 5 oz but then the doctor told me that the weight could be off by a pound either way and that was pretty much all he said about it. My own OB never said anything to me about it and I had him a few days later anyway. It turned out to be a correct estimate of his weight since he was 9 lbs 10 oz.

Go DH! That is awesome.

My doc last itme started to try to push a c-section at 38 weeks because of a 'big baby' and 'exploding uterus' (my words not his..lol). My BIG baby was 8 lbs 4 oz.

When I went int he resident did the US and forgot to save the information, so he aske dme what I thought the baby would be, and I told him 8lb 5 oz. When seh was born teh OB wanted to know who did the US because it was so accurate he was amazed. I of course told him the truth. The resident had mentioned that mom's prediction, especially if she has given birth before is 75% accurate, and better then the US any day. I guess he was right.

Good for your DH!!! What a man!
I would have totally avoided the meeting, too. I'm already to the point at only 27 weeks pregnant that I don't like to talk about being pregnant or delivering with anyone anymore!

I hate that they keep bringing up the section! Have your other children been average sized? I'm sure you can deliver naturally just fine. Even though I had an epi with my son (1st born), he was 9 lbs 3 oz and I was able to deliver vaginally. My OB massaged the entire time he was crowning and I didn't even tear.

Yay for your DH!

I can tell you that every baby in our PR that was suppose to be to too big or even too small, never was even close to the size they said. Every 9lb baby was 8lbs, and 10lber ended up being 8-9lbs. That to me just proves that ultrasounds aren't even close to accurate for weight!

Thanks! He is pretty amazing!!

Just to clarify, it's not my providers pushing c-section. It's everyone else! The u/s tech, radiologist, nosy friends.

My other kids were
DS 7lbs 15oz
DD 7lbs 7oz
dd 7lbs 10oz

I'm not really concerned about this baby's size. I expect he'll be larger because he's been baking for 2 extra weeks but I'm okay with that. I'm just so amazed how many people think that warrants major surgery! I just keep responding that it's just baby fat and that squishes on the way out!
