Just got back from my first appt. It was uneventful. This whole thing is new to me since we are doing a homebirth this time. It was an hour and 40 minutes of mostly just talking. They pricked my finger and did some quick blood test and then we just talked. No peeing in a cup, no exams, nothing. Once my husband got there we listened for the heartbeat with a doppler and it took a while but they were able to find it at about 160bpm. It made this seem more real, especially since I have had zero pregnancy symptoms.

that is great!! my first midwife exam was almost 2 hours long, mostly talking. They did do a pap and take some blood to do the run of the mill tests-- cf, iron, etc.

They pricked my finger to do a quick blood test that included some of that (I know they checked iron). It's a test they can do themselves and will be doing it throughout my pregnancy to check my iron levels. I turned down the OB Blood Panel that they don't require but offer for a price. I didn't think it was necessary since I can tell them my blood type, I know I don't have any STD's, I can get some of the info from the OB I used during my last pregnancy, etc.

One of the midwives was saying that other women must be really jealous because I have no symptoms, I'm not showing yet (to others at least, I can definitely tell a difference), don't have stretch marks, etc. I told her I usually keep those things to myself with other pregnant women (except you guys because I know how awesome you all are).

Congrats on hearing the heartbeat

As for the no m/s symptoms, it's great to not be sick, I agree, but I didn't have any either and I worried my entire first trimester because I didn't have any. I couldn't tell if things were going the way they should and if baby was growing or doing what he/she should. At least when you're sick, you know you're normal, so that's the main benefit of m/s.

Yeah, that's why it was extra nice to hear that heartbeat.
