Ok, so I know in the beginning of breastfeeding, after birth, your uterus contracts from the breastfeeding/hormones and it helps the uterus shrink back down. How long does that last for? I had that the first two days, but not much at all today. SHe is about 50 hours old. The lactation lady at the hospital said when you contract you know the baby is getting food, well, my baby spit up once today and i know she is getting food, but no contractions. I want that uterus to shrink

When I had Nicholas I stopped feeling the contractions 2-3 days after birth too. With Serenity I was feeling in for a week or week and a half though.

I've only experienced actually feeling it for the first few days with each child. Don't worry - it's still shrinking even though you can't feel it contracting!

I didn't feel it much after a day or so, and it wasn't bad anyway. I've been told it gets progressively worse with each birth though.

I didn't feel it much after the day or two. It never hurt though like some say. They say it hurts more with your second plus child though.

I only felt it for like one day with my first and like a week with my second and for 9-10days with my third. It does get worse with every child and with the first the uterus is a little slower to shrink down but with subsequent babies it is a little faster because it has done it before so it is like it knows what it is doing or something.

Thanks everyone!

With the section, i have a bunch of weird sensations down there, but i do think the contractions have stopped with the feedings. Seems like it ranges from 0-14 days, and for first time mommies 0-4 seems average, so my 2 days seems right on mark.

It's hard for me to remember exactly, but I want to say I felt obvious contractions for the first few days. For the next few weeks I felt kind of menstrual crampy while nursing and I'd have more spotting, so I knew there was stuff happening.

Just give the area a little time to go down... like you have a choice. If you are up to walking, do that because it will help, just listen to your body and take it easy when you need to. Somewhere within the 3-6 weeks time frame I was losing several pounds a day, it was awesome.

I think I am quite bloated from the section, they also put many bags of IV fluids thru me. I cannot really walk much yet, but maybe by early next week. While b-feeding during the night last night i could feel some bleeding (i know, almost TMI, lol) so things must have been contracting down there cause I was laying flat on my back.

I left the hospital on day 5, and I want to say that I was still a little swollen, especially in my feet, even then. I still had a difficult time walking at that point, and going upstairs and in and out of my own bed was difficult even then. I really think extensive and active laboring (ie not lying in a bed with an epidural, but walking and moving) makes the recovery worse. But you'll get there, it's just frustrating to be so limited.
