For your pregnancy/delivery did you or will you take classes to help you achieve your NCB? If so, what type of class are you taking? It not, are you reading any books? Which ones?

We took classes by our doula in her home. It was a great experience and helped us really bond with her. It also helped John understand that birth isn't an automatic emergency. We read a bunch of books as well.

Next time we may take a class with our midwife. I'm not sure yet but I know she does them. I will also do hypnobabies or birthing.

I really think classes are important at least for first time mothers. I personally think that if someone wants a natural birth that specific classes for that are a good idea. The stories J have heard of misinformation given in some hospital classes are unreal!

I took the class offered at our Birth Center, I had a doula and read a lot of good books. What was most beneficial in our class were different positions to labor in, it really helped me manage the contractions and the pain. I think I labored in almost every position we went over Also, during our class, DH learned a lot about child birth that he was unaware of, it was super informative for him.

I took a Lamaze class at a local hospital when pregnant with DD. Honestly, it was pretty worthless to me. I had read sooo many books by that point I only took away one new piece of information from the class. I used NONE of the breathing techniques during labor. (I found that vocalizing worked best for me.) This time around I've read a lot again and I won't be taking any classes. I've read so many books during both pregnancies I can't remember most of them. I did read one when pregnant with DD that was loaned to me by one of DH's friends, I wish I could remember the name, it was about having a gentle birth and water birth. It really opened my eyes. I was at my little brother's birth when I was 9, and I remember most of it. It was not something that I wanted for myself. Mom was on her back trying to push out a 9.5 lbs baby. (drug free) They finally threatened her with a C-section if she wouldn't take the pitocin. She took the pitocin and he finally came out. My whole point being, that was a big part of my education about child birth. Sorry for the ramble.

I am a bad person, I never took a class. I don't think I will this time either. DH started to read a book last time, but when only around the third chapter was how to deal with a stillbirth, he refused to read anymore.

We took class during my first pregnancy, I believe it was presented by a doula, it was natural childbirth class at the birth centre

I have never taken any classes. I read a lot of books through each pregnancy and always practice relaxation techniques independently.

We took a childbirth class that was taught by Doulas. I found it very helpful and was very glad that I did. My son is almsot 2 now, and I still read books on childbirth.

We took a class with our first, it was on pregnancy, childirth and infant care. Was given by the hospital but was gared toward natural birth.

This time we'll do no classes. I'll probbaly do some more reading.

I'm taking a hypnobirthing class right now. I'm halfway through the class. I'm also reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and loving it.

I took a childbirthing class from the hospital when I was pregnant with Nicholas, although it wasn't very helpful. We didn't take any classes during my pregnancy with Serenity but I did read The Natural Pregnancy Book by Aviva Jill Romm, and found it fairly informative about ways to relieve and prevent stresses and discomforts, as well as way to bond with the baby in utero. There was also a chapter made just for the dads to read.
