Hi! My name is Ashleigh, and my husband and I are expecting our first September 2nd! I would love to try for a natural childbirth, though I don't really know anyone who has gone through it. Everyone in my family that I am close to has had an epidural, and whenever I have mentioned having a natural childbirth, they all practically laugh.

Anyways ... DH and I went on a tour of the L&D and they showed us that they have a tub right in each room to labor in if I choose. I'm really curious of other women's experiences with laboring in a tub. I think that it would be a good idea for me, but like I said, I don't know of anyone who has gone through natural childbirth, let alone laboring in a tub.

Thanks!

Hi Ashleigh!!!!!!!!!!

I did not get to labor in the tub because my water had broken, but my birth center had huge jacuzzi tubs in every room

Have you read any NCB books? There are a lot of good resources out there and even books for your DH like "the birth partner"

A good question to ask is how often the tubs are used.... I've known some doulas who work in areas with hospitals with tubs, and they've had a hard time getting the nurses to set them up.

A doula is also an excellent asset, she can help your husband to support you. Classes are an essential imo, good NCB oriented ones.

Otherwise just keep reading on here, and learn all that you can! You'll be able to do it, just have faith in yourself and prepare.

I had a waterbirth with my DD and I LOVED it! I honestly think it helped a ton. If you have access to water to labor, take advantage of it! And alot of women get the responses to NCB that youa re getting, but you CAN do it!

I had 2 land births, and 2 water births, I love water births, planning to have another one.

When I was pregnant with my first, all I knew was your typical medicated birth, and because I have a HUGE fear of needles and surgeries, I was totally scared of giving birth, so I researched if there are any other posibilities and found natural birth, once I looked into natural birth it wasnt about fear of needles anymore, it was better for me and the baby. SO I only had natural births so far and would never opt for meds if everything goes right. And all I have to say if I can do it (me the biggest chicken when it comes to pain, or blood or needles hahahahah) then anybody can have natural birth.

Oh, I agree about getting a doula. My doula was INVALUABLE to me during my labor and even after helping me with breastfeeding once the midwives left.

I had a natural birth in a hospital and my nurse encouraged me to use the jacuzzi tub and I LOVED it. It really helps you relax and therefore cuts the pain in half at least. I always recommend to women to use the tub if they are able to.

I had a water birth with my second daughter and loved it! You can play it by ear once you're in labor, but for most, the water feels so good and is so relaxing.

Welcome!!! I'm also planning on laboring and hopefully birthing in the tub. It's normal for everyone to think you are crazy when you tell them you plan on an NCB but once you do all the research, they will seem like the crazy ones. heheehe
