Birth Plan

Jen L- Due date of July 21, 2009
North Shore Birth Center
Midwives of the North Shore Birth Center
Present at birth: Ryan D(partner), Gayle L(Mom), Jamae L(sister), Leila D(daughter). Open to others upon mother’s permission.

Overview
I chose the North Shore Birth Center so that I could obtain a natural, free from interventions, and as easy on the baby as possible birth. I hope to have a safe yet satisfying birth experience.

Requests for Labor, Birth, and Immediately After
-Amniotomy only with extended stalled labor.
-Minimal internal exams.
-Pushing with natural urges.
-The father does not want to cut the cord. Either my mom or sister will cut the cord.
-Baby and Mom will bond before any routine care is performed on baby please.
-Local anesthetic for stitching if tearing occurs.

Newborn Care
-No eye ointment for baby.
-Vitamin K shot to be given only if birth trauma occurs and to be discussed further.
-Declining the Hepatitis B vaccine.
-No circumcision please.
-Breastfeeding only.

How does that sound? Anything you would change or that I am leaving out? I have to take it with me today to my 37 week appt but any ideas are welcome! Oh and since I am delivering at a birth center the things like not cutting the cord until it is done pulsating or placing baby immediately on me are done routinely.

Sounds good. Since you are birthing at a birth center I think it should be a lot easier to get your wishes.

I agree. It sounds like you only need the basic stuff since you will be at the birthing center. Looks good!

I felt some uncomfortable giving it to the midwife yesterday...I am so not a demands kind of person lol. I just wasn't sure which parts are standard care sort of things so anything I wasn't sure of I included.

Is the wording ok? I don't like when I read things that sound bossy so I tried to not come off that way but I just am not sure.
