Welcome Liz! Is this your 1st? Can you explain you'd desire for NCB? What have you read and/or are you planning fir any particular method to help you, like Bradley if Hypnobabies?

This is not my first, although it is my first with DH. I had a son that would have been 3 next month, but was taken 2 years ago by a drunk driver.

I'm still not exactly sure what i'd like as far as this birth. I'm taking my childbirth classes through a doula, but she will not be able to attend my birth. She is planning on advising DH and my mom on relaxation techniques and all she does. I havent really looked much into the bradley method, but that will be my next research.

My ultimate goal it to achieve an unmedicated birth. I know that sounds pretty broad, but i still have some research to do so i can decide what i prefer.

Can anyone suggest sites or books you used?

Welcome. I am so very sorry for the loss of your little boy.
I hope you are able to have the birth that you want. It's great that both your DH and your mom will be able to be there.

Welcome!! the Birth Partner is a good book for DH and mom. Ina May's book is another good book for you to read.

Oh my gosh, I got a huge pit in my stomach reading about your son. How terribly sad. I'm sorry.

Welcome to the board! I took childbirth class through our doula and it was a great experience. Is your mom taking the class too? Does she know much about natural childbirth and support it?

BTW I am Cheryl, one of the cohosts here.

I'm so sorry about your son!

Welcome!!! It sounds like you have a good support system in place so far. Is there another doula that would be available to attend your birth?

hi cheryl, nice to meet you! My mom lives in SC and i'm here in MS, so the doula will not be giving her classes, but advising her by email. My mom has never been through childbirth, I'm actually adopted, but she is willing to support me any way she can and is reading up as much as possible about natural childbirth.

christine-yes, i am very thankful to have a great support system. we live in a very small town, there is only the one doula in the area, and the rest in the state are too expensive with their travel fees. unfortuantely, since she was just doing this to help women and not for the money she's told me that now her kids are starting school and she needs to go back to a part time job and wont be able to leave work to come to the hospital with me. she did say if it was her day off or something she would come by.

How horrible about your son. I'm so sorry for his loss. I hope you have the wonderful natural birth you envision. Seems like you're doing all you can so far. Perhaps look into Hypnobabies too since you can do it at home and they work with you so it's affordable. Good luck & HUGS!

nice to meet you liz, and welcome.
i am so, so, sooo sorry that your son was taken from you.

i'm jaQ, expecting #3, and hoping for my first home birth. both of my deliveries were natural, and very fast. i wasn't interested in going natural at all, but it had to happen that way, i'm proud of myself, and, now i know that i most definitely CAN do it, at home.

wishing you lots of luck wit yours!
