I have to share this conversation with you guys that I just had with DH!!

Me: Babe, we need to start packing the bag for the birth center.
Him: What? No we don't, we have so much time.
Me: Well I'd rather do it now just in case, plus it's probably going to take us a few weeks to gather everything.
Him: I really think it's too early to worry about it.
Me: I know but...
Him: You know, you have AT LEAST 24 hours after your water breaks before anything even starts, it's not like in the movies, you know.
Me: WHAT? Are you on crack? You are confused. It's 24 hours from the time that your water breaks that they say you MUST deliver the baby to avoid infection. A lot of women don't even have their water break until they are in the delivery room.
Him: No babe, my friend at work told me how it goes. He has 2 kids.
Me: Oh, HE does, does HE...?? HE sounds soooo informed! LOL

MEN!! Sounds like we need to have a little birthing lesson.

They seriously are clueless!! My SO was insistent that because my water had not broken that there was no way I could be in labor. I had to argue with him that the percentage of women who's water breaks before labor is actually very low lol.

Actually, women can go quite awhile with SROM, so long as they're doing everything they can to avoid infection. First, staying the heck out of the hospital because they stick all sorts of things up there (which tend to be the root of the infections). You can't have sex (dur), and shouldn't be putting anything up there. You should stay out of the tub, but showers are fine, be vigilant about cleanliness, up your vit. c intake, drink tons of water, check your temp every 4 hours (96-99 is normal) and baby's HB, check for tenderness in the stomach and as long as all of that is normal, you're fine. 80% of women who have their waters break before actual labor starts, go into labor on their within 24-48 hours.

Doctors want you to have the baby within 24 hours because of the risk of infection, but the truth is the chances of infection go up when you head to the hospital. The amniotic fluid is constantly regenerating, so it's okay to lose some. Baby will still be okay.

There was a video of woman who had SROM for 10 days before going into labor (GLoria Lemay's VBa3C). There are known cases of women who have gone WEEKS before going into labor. And if you are with a midwife and doing a homebirth, they usually let moms go 4 days before worrying. So, anyway... didn't mean to steal your post lol but I just wanted to say all that because you actually don't HAVE to get baby out before 24 hours of the water breaking. It's actually okay to wait in most cases.

Oh my! Yeah, work friends know all about birthing babies right??? LOL

My husband came home about a month ago telling me he now knows why women want c-sections. I said 'Oh yeah why?' He said "Well, one of my guys said that a c-section is basically a tummy tuck and that his girlfriends stomach looks so much better after her c-section!' Yeah....a c-section is a tummy tuck and your stomach looks better...sure....

Oh yeah - for sure. I only said that to explain where his friend may have got the 24 hours thing from. I proceeded to tell him that if my water breaks and a lot of time goes by, I will lie to any surgeon that asks me when my water broke. LOL

Hahaha! That is so funny! Well if he has two kids he must know! Plus its probably a good idea to wait until you are in labor and dealing with contractions to try to pack a bag! NOT!
