After a very scary emergency c-section due to placental abruption, Hobie is here! He was born yesterday the 10th at 6:54 pm, 6lb 14 oz and 19 inches long. Missed my birthday by about 5 hours! I am not thrilled about the c-section but am tremendously happy that Hobie is here and safe. When I got to the hospital yesterday I was at 4cm and in active labor. I got settled in, prepared for another natural childbirth. I'd been in my room for awhile and suddenly thought I felt my water break. The nurses came in to check things out and instead of leaking amniotic fluid, I was gushing blood. Everyone started growing more and more concerned as I started passing fist-sized blood clots. Then suddenly I was in a ton of pain along my bikini line, and baby's heartrate kept dropping and wasn't coming back up. Suddenly I was rushed to the OR for an emergency c-section - I was SO scared as they wheeled me into the OR, and I'm not sure I've ever felt worse pain. They were able to do a quick spinal block on me and in just a few minutes he was out. I did in fact have an abruption. Hobie had to spend a few hours in the transition NICU for minor breathing issues, but I've been able to room in with him since 11:30 last night. He is such a sweet, darling little guy!

Oh wow! So glad that the two of you are okay! I know that he didn't get here the way you wanted him to but at least you can know that you had a truly necessary c-section.

Congrats on the new bundle of joy. He's darling.

Thanks ladies! They let us come home this afternoon - I was so surprised! - and physically I'm doing better than I thought but I'm still waiting for the major pains. I haven't done a whole lot yet. I was feeling pretty okay about the whole birth but got a HUGE dose of the blues in the hospital last night. I couldn't stop sobbing - BAD idea when you've just had abdominal surgery I wane between feeling okay about it because it had to be done, and horrible and guilty and pained and an emotional wreck about it. I guess in a way I'm thankful to have had the experience of a 30-weeker prior to this, because I know things could be much worse than just a c-section. Doesn't mean I don't wish it had gone differently though!

I can imagine it's still hard to come to terms with a c-section, even when absolutely necessary. Hobie is precious and I'm so glad he's here safe and sound, no matter how he got here!!!

That's a true emergency section for real! Thank goddess that happened AFTER you got to the hospital and not before! I'm glad you are both ok and home.

What an adorable name, I've never heard it before. Is there a story behind it?

The first two days were the worst for me, and every day after that was an improvement so I wouldn't be surprised if this is as bad as it gets for you. Just hang in there as far as all the emotional stuff goes. It's a scary experience and with all the extra pain and hormones it's that much worse. Time helped me a lot. *hugs*

OMG, I'm so happy that he is here safe and sound! And he is gorgeous! I'm sorry to hear about the toll the section is taking on you. I think I would feel the same way even when it was clearly necessary as yours was. I hope that you are feeling better and better every minute!
