How is everyone doing for the holidays? Are you ready? I know we have a few Jewish members, how are the holidays going for you?

I did all my shopping online this year, I just had to. Most everything I got Cadie can't be found locally, and I am just too tired to gallivant all over the place with a 2 year old. Not everything is here yet, but a lot of it is.

We are having both our families here for Christmas, this is a first! John got a beautiful (huge) tree and he is cooking dinner. I don't have much to do in that department. I'm psyched!

I have been less than enthusiastic about Christmas in the past but it is so much more fun with kids. This year should be great. Last year Cadie was too young really. She needs all new toys so we somewhat overdid it. I can't wait!!

It's all coming together! I am making several of BE's gifts and they still need to be finished, but I have all my shopping done now! (just finished shopping for DH yesterday!)

Last year we spent Christmas in KY with family(I was pregnant, and got SOOO sick on Christmas day!...so not fun!), and we were supposed to do the same this year, but DH just couldn't take off work (and we were just there for Thanksgiving) So we're staying home! Our best friends live down stairs from us, and we will be doing something special with them (She taking care of brunch, and I'm doing dinner). I'm really glad to be home for once!

I'm so excited to give BE all his gifts! (yes I know He's still young, but I can't wait!)
We bought him a wooden bead maze, a sock monkey, and a pair of soft soled boots from Target. and I got a organic made teddy bear that I found on clearance at BRU, along with a hoodie.

and I made him- some pacifier clips with interchangeable ribbons(they're so cute!), a pair of baby legs. I hand died some play silks with Kool-Aid(this was so much fun!!). and I am also making him some bean bags in the different shapes (circles, squares, and triangles) that are all made of different colored and textured fabrics (He's really into texture these days!) There will be one in every color of the rainbow as well as brown, black, gray, and white. (I still need to get these finished though :/ )

We never planned on doing much for him, being that he's still so young, but he's just starting to outgrow all his "baby" toys (rattles, and teething toys), and was really needing something new! I was however, able to come up with things that I considered to be educational, and encourage imaginative play (Waldorf you might say), while still being geared towards his age group, AND staying away from plastics, and things with Batteries! (I'm happy about that!)

Oh, and we also got a FREE Sofie the Giraffe with a subscription to Mothering Mag!

I have been eyeing the play silks in the nova toys catalogue HARD. Cadie's birthday is in January so I think I' going to get her one or two. Where did you get the plain colored ones? Maybe that is a cheaper route to go, they are not cheap. They seem really fun, I just don't know if she would like them.

Nova Naturals is where I got the idea...They are so pretty!

I used this tutorial, How to Dye Play Silks With Kool-Aid & Food Coloring and the colors came out BEAUTIFULLY! They are so rich and vibrant! She adds a link to a website that you can order them from (that's where I got mine) They were only maybe $2-3 per silk(?) I got the 21 1/2"x21 1/2" squares, and they included a free 8x50 something inch scarf for free with my order! (which I tie dyed with all the other colors I used!)

I ordered 7 white, and one black. So we have, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, and white!

I'm doing as little as possible this year. We wold everyone that it was going to be a lean year on gifts, with all the baby stuff we needed to buy. SO almost all the shopping was online. Dh got a bouncy seat and pack-n-play and I got a breast pump (so romantic!)
My parents and sister are coming, but I'm not allowed to be in the kitchen- so I have to survive my mother and sister cooking in my kitchen!!

But it's sooo much better than last year, I had a housefull of people I was cooking for and started miscarrying on Christmas day (knew it was coming).

This year I'm just hoping to make it through without going into labor!

Low key here. Only DD is getting a handful of gifts, as money is beyond tight. We are spending Christmas eve with friends and the next day we will go visit my grandfather.

Chanuka is over tomorrow, so our celebrations (which have been minor) are wrapping up. On x-mas we'll maybe go see a movie if I feel up for it, but we won't celebrate anything.

I'm really looking forward to next year, and having our LO be old enough to just start enjoying it! I love the ideas in this thread on gifts- those bean bags sound super fun!!!

But baby's birthday will be close to chanuka still (it's 12/1 next year) so we won't overdo it. I look forward to spoiling Rob a bit tho!!!!

This year for gifts we got each other a video camera (our splurge) and he got new shoes and I got a hypnobabies supplimental cd (after baby comes/BFing success). I wish we'd been able to do the 8 gifts, but the camera was more then we expected to spend, but we love it and it'll last for a long time.

I'm excited for the holidays this season. My tree this year is my favorite in 10 years! And it was Plan B because I didn't have the money to buy what I wanted. Sad thing is we decided not to do a holiday party this year so barely anyone will see it!

On Xmas morning early we'll drive about 90 minutes to the parents home of my SIL. My SIL's sister adopted 2yo twins this year so it will be a fun first Xmas with them.

On Sunday the 27th we're going to meet DH's brother & SIL again up in Reno for a few days. I really got to bond with DH brother Derek and he's dying to spend more time with us. He doesn't even want to ski, to Stefan's dismay, because me and DeAnn (his wife) don't ski and he wants us to be all together. Awwww!

And I'm really looking forward to NYE. We haven't partied on NYE for a few years so I'm really looking forward to it. I plan to get a little crazy.

The nice thing is my office closes between Xmas and New Years every year so I'll have about 1.5 weeks off work fully paid that doesn't go towards my vacation time. I'm so excited!

Low key here too. Getting ready for a baby... and we're not making as much as we were when we were living in Hawaii, so we limited our gifts a lot. We did get Seamus a huge kitchen play set though. I got it on Thanksgiving, and it was marked down A LOT than what it normally costs... so we got a great deal on it.

I'm kind of upset at my mom though... this is the first time in three years that we've lived near family (we currently live a few blocks from my mom), and my mom, step-dad, and baby brother and sister are traveling elsewhere this year! It really annoys me. :-/ Especially since I'm 36 weeks pregnant and could pop any minute. I didn't get to have my mom (or ANY other family besides DH) there at my son's birth, so I was really looking forward to my mom being there for my daughter's birth. She still may be... if I go to term, but I could easily go early (I've been feeling a LOT of pelvic pressure and such)... and my mom might not be there. I just don't understand why they chose THIS year to go out of state for Christmas. We also don't know if we'll even be here by next Christmas.

On the bright side, my dad just found out that he has to do some work in Irvine for a couple months (which is only a couple hours from here), so we'll thankfully get to see my dad and step-mom for the holidays AND after Rain's birth... so my dad gets to meet his granddaughter. He also hasn't seen the rest of us for over 2 years... so we're pretty excited about that.

As for the actual holidays... well, we are not Christian (or Jewish)... our "religious" holiday, Yule is on the 21st this year. Traditionally, we open our new holiday pajamas the night of Yule (while wearing the PJs we got last year) and we may or may not do a family ritual. On Christmas (which we view as our cultural holiday, rather than religious), we wake up wearing our new PJs, have xmas breakfast, then we open our stockings, and then our gifts.

Unfortunately though, we'll be celebrating xmas either the day before or the day after the 25th. DH has to work on Christmas, unfortunately, so we had to change when we celebrate this year. Not a big deal though.

We're going pretty low-key here. We are having my SIL and her husband over plus my friend, her husband, and their daughter who is Lily's best friend. I'm cooking for everyone and my menu is out of control. I need to pare it down a lot, otherwise I'm going to be unhappy by the time we eat.

We only got Lily one gift from Santa and it's a play kitchen. I also got her some new pajamas for Christmas Eve and an ornament that represents the past year to me (it's a giraffe because she has become obsessed with them). Oh, and I got her a few little books for her stocking. She's already getting gifts in the mail from our relatives, so she didn't need anything from us really. DH's sisters get out of control buying for her and my sister goes crazy as well. Then you factor in all my aunts/uncles, the grandparents, friends, etc and she ends up with way too much stuff.
