bigplantnerd did castor oil, and it worked. I tried it with my third, and it was awful-though the other girls said it wasn't really that bad. I had my worst pregnancy with her-I was on modified bed rest, pelvic rest, and felt pretty yucky... so I was so over it. I don't know if it helped, but I did have her at 38+5, but it was a day and a half after the castor oil. *shrug* I probably shouldn't have rushed her, but I was just done. I'd never felt that way with my others, and I haven't since.

Good luck! Try orgasms (which can be fun anyway ), eating fresh pineapple (the enzymes help for some reason-supposedly), eating eggplant, etc... you can try a whole basil leaf up by your cervix-it's supposed to be comparable to the cervadil they give for inductions. I don't know if that's true, but some women have tried and been successful.

i did castor oil after my water broke and the diarrhea + contractions was horrific. i had painful, non stop diarrhea for about an hour, then a couple hours later another long round, then an hour after that about 30 minutes of bad diarrhea.

i would do acupuncture!!!

I have went anywhere from 38 1/2 weeks to 42 weeks, so can vary so much. I would avoid the castor oil and just let your body start when it's ready. I've heard pretty nasty things about it. Although it feels doesn't feel like it, baby will come out!
