I have my second appointment next week and I would love to hear the heartbeat. Does anyone know when this is possible?

I have felt movement and I'm sporting a nice belly, but still, I would love to hear the heartbeat!

How many weeks are you? I went for my first appt with MWs at around 16 weeks and they said they couldn't clearly pick it up at that point. I've heard 18-20 weeks is when they can hear a good heartbeat and not be picking up other sounds as much.

Yeah, I think it's closer to 20 weeks that you can hear it with a fetal scope.

They could not hear it at my 11 week or 15 week MW visit, which surprised them, but they could come 19 weeks. I think a lot has to do with baby's position and you.

about 16-18 weeks is the earliest a fet. can really be effective. doppler is around 8-12, depending on lots of stuff.

my midwife won't use a doppler unless I beg her, and I'm not inclined to do that. So wait I shall!

what about in labor? We used a dop sometimes, but in labor it is really hard to use a fetoscope..... and if she works with assistants it's doublly hard, b/c only one can hear it at a time, if you're even able to (b/c of position).

The fetoscope normally starts picking up sound around 19ish weeks, but closer to 20 weeks. Sometimes it can be sooner. My Midwife picked up HB at 20 weeks and I could hear it with my fetoscope at 21 weeks.
