We waited, Abby had her first dentist visit this past fall, at 3 years old. I think the main point in even taking them at this age is to get them used to going (unless you have a history of dental problems in your family and need an earlier checkup). We'll wait until about 3 with Anna as well.
Andrea, mom to 3 beautiful girls - Abigail (8) Annabelle (6) and Alexis (3)
Kieron started going at age 2, Callum actually got his teeth "cleaned" at about 14 months or so because I was bringing him with me when I brought Kieron anyways and since our insurance covers it, I though why not. They didn't do much with him and he loved it, he got a balloon, toothbrush, stickers and toys like his brother, lol.
Thank you for my beautiful siggy Vicki!
We just took our little ones who are 4 and 2. The 4 year old did great, the 2 year old screamed which made flouride application very easy because his mouth was wide open - LOL! Our dentist says a first visit at 2 is great.

Lily just went a few weeks ago when she turned 18 months. She has 16 teeth, so I wanted to get them checked. All the dentist did was look at each tooth and give her a toy. No cleaning or anything until after age 2.
I wanted to start at 2, but the insurance my older DD was on doesn't cover her until she's 5! I understand they don't do much at 2, or maybe even 3, but I think waiting until she'd 5 is a bit much. We're getting different insurance though, so I'll probably be looking to schedule her in soon. She'll be 3 in May.
