So I have been thinking more and more about becoming a doula or a midwife.
When my sister was in labor with her firs I was pretty much her doula. I kept her calm, rubber her back, helped her to the bathroom et cetera.
I was also considering midwife because I already have a medical background and I like what they do. All though I see an OB due to being high risk.

Where should I start? I know I could google it but I figure I would ask here first, since all of you ladies are extremely knowledgable and I am a newbie!

I would love to become certified for both one day too, but not any time soon because my dh travels half the week and I couldn't just up and leave throughout the night. So, maybe when my children are older..

Anyhow, I have a couple of links that tell you how, I'm sure the others on here that are actually doulas can tell you more.

Doula:
DONA International – Birth Doula Certification

Midwife:
The North American Registry of Midwives

as far as midwifery, nursing school is probably the best place to start!

I have found some decent CPM schools, but there are only a few distance education schools and I"m not sure how DH will feel about the cost. Although it is cheaper then when I went to school to be a medical assistant.

I saw they do Antepartum doulas now too. I was like omg I could do that. I know what its like to high risk and be on bed rest and just wanting someone to talk to! We shall see what I finally decide. With the baby on the way and such DH and I will have a lot to talk about.
