I have my 39/40 week appointment today and I am not sure if my midwife is going to offer an internal exam. I'm not sure what I will do if she offers. Any ideas?

Part of me is curious simply because I haven't even tried to do anything to encourage labor, and if things are high, firm, and closed I might get some motivation to start walking and moving around in the next week. But if things are looking like they are making a bit of progress on their own, I'll just keep going with the flow.

Then again, I know progression means nothing usually and things can go from 0-10 in hours. Thoughts?

Are you GBS +? If you're GBS + I would decline, but if not I think curiosity would get the best of me. How anxious are you feeling?

Nope, negative.

I'm not anxious at all. It's very weird and freaky how normal I feel.

I would decline then! No use in them poking around in there for no real reason! Are you delivering in a BC?

Yup. I think the same birth center that a few others here delivered at, in MA.

I didn't have any internals until I was in labor - except for once when we thought my water may have broken.

Have you tried checking yourself? I checked my cervix during the ending of my second and fourth pregnancies.

I say it depends on your mindset. If you really know that it means nothing and it will not make you discouraged or upset, then do it if you want to. I did.

But man, when at my 41 week appointment I had actually REGRESSED from my 40 week - I was not prepared for that!!!!! Next time I might refuse them all together if I can check myself (couldn't this time - cervix too high.)

I actually did check myself the beginning of this week because I was having tons of contractions and curiosity got the best of me. So I guess it's no difference if it's me or a midwife, huh? It was at least 2 fingertips dilated, but I am just as curious about effacement (not sure how to check that) and station. Hmmmmmmm.

it's probably not a bad idea to start doing some walking right now anyway. The cardio is very very helpful for labor prep to build up your stamina. Otherwise, I don't have any advice on if you should get checked or not, it's your call!!!

Yeah I took Walter out all day yesterday and we walked around the mall. If it wasn't snowing out now, I would go walking around the neighborhood a bunch. I don't mean to sound like a lazy ***, by walking I meant extreme walking.

I do get off the couch occasionally.

My midwife always asked, "Do you want me to check you or do you feel like you don't want me messing around down there?" When she put it that way, the answer way "no thank you!"

I just wanted to high five you for not getting checked either.....I know it was SO hard at my 40 week appointment earlier this week to decline when the nurse asked me if I wanted to be checked. So good for you for holding out!!! I think I would be miserable if you weren't just 2 days behind me, especially with all these babies being born and people being induced.

I hate internals. So I applaud you for saying no. I would do the same thing!

Thanks Heather! You need to hang around here some more until Nolan appears. I'm considering taking a hiatus from our DDC just because I feel like I'm a lone visitor on Mars most of the time.

Please don't!!! You make me feel like less of an oddball for not trying to "evict" my baby.

Plus I'm thinking one of us is going to end up pushing out the biggest baby, hahaha.

You're not the only one. ;-) I think that they all think I'm off my rocker.

I was just wondering if that baby was still in there Kristin!!

I didn't have them check at my 40 week appointment and whoever was the midwife that day did ask(I *think* it was Susan). I just don't feel like it does anything and depending on who does it can mess around and get things going.

I can't wait to hear that Walter's little brother is here!!! By the way it has always bothered me...did I see you at the birth center the day Owen was born?? SUV, shorter hair, super tiny?? I'd say 10-11ish am?? Me being the suuuupppeeerrr pregnant redhead?
