I didn't have a doula with my hospital birth, but labor was super quick. As much as I asked DH to do some reading and research, he didn't. When I hit transition he thought I was wimping out and wanted drugs. When my water broke and started pushing and we were still at home, he froze. Luckily my mom showed up to watch Lily and realized what was happening. Had my mom not planned on coming over, I think a doula could have been helpful. Had I already been at the hospital, I don't think I would have needed a doula. Even though I was trying hard not to push at the hospital, I was still able to advocate for myself and refuse unnecesary interventions they were trying to force on me.
