I'll try to keep this short, b/c I'm in desperate need of getting in bed and getting some sleep. I can't shake the feeling that I can, and NEED to do something to help other Mommies. Like, along the doula or childbirth education route. I have the added benefit of having my MSN. I want the hospital system I work at to start a volunteer doula program like other big cities. And open a birth center with waterbirthing at one of it's facilities. And I want to be the person to set this in motion. I want to get my doula certification, childbirth educator certification, and lactation consultant certification. One at a time of course! I feel like once I have those, I can set the wheels in motion with addressing my goals with administration.
I can't wait to share more with you all, but right now need to start at the beginning. SO.....where or via whom do you recommend I get my doula certification? And the others? I want to go with the organization that is the most respected in the birthing community. Is it DONA? CAPPA? Someone else? I am so super excited to start my work on this!!!
Do you have a doula support group in your area? If so, I would talk to them and see what they recommend. In my area, most of the doulas are DONA trained so I decided to go with DONA for my training. But, every area is different.
We desperately need more NCB-friendly providers. A waterbirth center would be awesome here! I know there is a birth center in Fort Mill that gives you the option of waterbirth, but it would be great if CMC Main would have that ability to serve some of the other surrounding areas (Gastonia, Huntersville, Concord) that can't make the long drive down to Fort Mill.
