I read somewhere...can't remember who posted it... that they were inducing to make sure the OB of their choice delivered. It boggles my mind considering most OBs run in at the last minute and aren't even there for the long haul, like a midwife. They check you and leave... run back in to catch when you are almost done pushing.
My sister was induced with her last baby two days before Christmas (she was "past due" at 40w5d even though she had been measuring 2 weeks behind the whole pregnancy but that's a whole other story). The nurses got her started with the pitocin, she got her epi that didn't even work, and then was pretty much fully dilated after an hour. Her OB didn't even make it to the hospital to deliver her baby. So even an induction doesn't guarantee the OB of choice will be there.
Just wanted to share that i am another jan 2011 DDC member... who is a HUGE fan of natural labor..
i actually didnt even READ that post until just now becuz of the title.. haha..
with my first delivery my water broke but natural contractions didnt start up on there own so they decided to hook me up to pit.... and it was 20 hours of agony.. I did get a shot of nubain at one point and hated it.. didnt do that again.. and i pushed for an hour..
my second labor and delivery was natural from beginning to end and i was SO STINKING PROUD of my BODY! i was amazed that it did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do so simply!
Pit contractions and natural contractions both hurt but there is a different intensity to pit contractions..
i totally plan on going natural again..
and i tend to totally avoid talk of inductions if possible... I am sure they that plan on them are happy to have a date.. but for me.. id rather be surprised!
