Well I am starting my doula business. I have most of my certifying births lined up so by March or so I can be fully certified and ready to hit the ground running! But I'm not very good at being creative for business names. Evenutally I want to be a childbirth educator, lactation educator and also sell cloth diapers via an online store (and in my home for local customers). So I would like the name to be applicable to all of those things not just doula work.

I have one idea that I really like but I'm wondering if it's too cute for the NCB community. It's Bobitty Boo Babies or Bobitty Boo Baby Services. This is a nick name my mom gave me when I was little. For some reason she has always called me some form of Bibbity Bobbity Boo. To this day I answer to the name Bob. My DH gets a kick out of it! And I kind of like the concept of the fairy godmother. Not in the magical sense but being there for the laboring woman when no one else is or having that be my only focus. But I feel this is a little cutesy or give the wrong impression of what I do as a doula.

What do you think? I thought I would ask you gals since you are the NCB community!

(If you don't like it or think there is a better option, I am TOTALLY up for suggestions!)

Oh. Em. Gee.

I would LOVE the imagery of a fairy godmother for my doula!!!!!!

Just the very idea of it makes me have the warm fuzzies and feel safe. Either one of those are awesome. I'm thinking of a silhouette logo... a pregnant woman, and the little fairy pointing her wand at the belly. There is a star in white on the belly, and in black text, "Bobbity Boo Babies/Baby Services".

I see it being VERY successful, too!

I think Bobitty Boo Babies would be a great name for the cloth diaper store! Maybe the cute name for that, and some kind of calm, capable goddess of birth type name for the other services? I do think you might be onto something with it being too cute for the NCB clientele and the awesomeness of birth and lactation. That said, I am not very good at names either!

Hmmm...Magic Of Mothering (M.O.M.)
Or something like mothering the mother, mothering our moms, something about the eternal, timelessness & power of birth/mothering? Guess I am not much help!

I've been thinking about this since I saw the post and still haven't come up with anything. I do like what you have, but I'm just wondering if the "babies" or "baby services" part of it wouldn't attract the doula clientele because it doesn't have anything about birth or birthing in the name. (I'm thinking from Google perspectives, etc.)

I think in that case I would just have to have someone work on my site that knows how to do the search optimization stuff so the right keywords were in the site. That way it will show up on a google search for doula or birth or Seattle. Ya know?

Good plan. I'm not entirely sure how that works, but I know I had a HORRIBLE time finding a doula on Google, and just ended up going to the DONA site and picking random people to contact. lol

Okay so I think I'm getting talked out of Bobbity Boo Babies. It's really cute and I like it but I don't think it meshes with natural birth and empowering women. I think it sounds like the opposite. I am still going to get the domain name and use it (hopefully) for selling cloth diapers online.

Sad day...

Honestly, I would worry about Mousewitsch coming after you. You'd think they'd have better things to do, but seriously, I think they pay people to search the internet. However, I still like the idea of having magic or something magical in it.

Maybe Ancient Magic Doula Services? Something like that. I'm terrible at business names.

What is Mousewitch? I'm nervous now... is this some sort of mafia of NCB??

Do you just mean Disney? LOL I had never heard of that before!

I agree that you could get in trouble with Disney, and while it is super cute for diapers etc, I don't see it is as a birthing services name. You can have two different names though, and still be the same business on paper. I think that's probably your best option.

I've been thinking about this for a while. I'm glad you're going away from the fist idea - I do think it's too cute. You are so much more than that. I still haven't come up with a good name though. Bethany's Beautiful Birth Services? IDK. sorry. I'll keep thinking

Thanks Ami! (Wow, I had to type that like 5 times. The timing of my shift key stroke is a little off this morning. I've only taken one sip off coffee this morning! lol) I like Beatiful Birth, because you can make the B look like a preggo belly! But alas there are a lot of doulas out there with some variation of that. I think I"m just going to go for my name dot com. Then if I ever do the cloth dipe thing then I'll just link it off my website with a seperate url.
