The doula we have hired is not charging us for attending our birth and my husband and I are looking to get her something special as a thank you. She is just starting her business and so I was thinking of maybe buying her some items for her doula kit and am looking for suggestions. I know she doesn't have a birth ball so that's on the list, but I'm looking to spend about $200 - $300 and a birth ball isn't that much.

Any suggestions would be really welcome!!

what about a birth tub she could rent/loan out to clients?

massage supplies (oils, tools, etc...)

Gift certificates for brochures/business cards/etc...

That's a pretty nice thing for you to do!!

That's really great of you guys!

I like the above suggestions. You could also ask her if there are any books she wants to read but hasn't. I know as a former Doula and having current Doula friends that we/they are constantly reading pregnancy/birth related books to keep up with everything.

Massagers....something as simple as tennis balls are good. Massage lotion or oil....a non scented one would be good. A rice sock. A rebozo if she knows how to use one. Rebozo – The Action Shots | Homebirth: Midwife Mutiny in South Australia

These are all great ideas, thank you! She is a LMBT and very well stocked on massage oil, etc but the books are a great idea! Maybe I'll also add The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding? I know my previously doula had that book so she could loan it out to new moms. We are also doing HypnoBabies and she has been really interested in that, perhaps I could get her the doula companion guide.

I really appreciate everyone's input!!

As a new doula starting my business I know I would appreciate any of the above mentioned things! I love the idea of natural birth/breastfeeding books. I know a lot of doulas that have lending library available to their clients so you would be helping her build up her selection! I have a whole list of great books if you need some ideas. Just PM me!

The other ideas I liked were the GC to get business cards or other marketing materials. Something like Staples or Office Depot would be great because then she could get other stuff too. I know I have been dying for one of those really nice planners with calendar and contact info.

A rebozo would be very cool!

I love all of these ideas! Another good idea for the doula bag is a kneeling pad (you can get in gardening stores).

There is also this awesome necklace, which I know a lot of doulas would drool over:
Midwifery Today: Womb with a View Pendant

Oh! you could also pay for an add in some local advertising space (facebook, newspaper, or something like that)

That's a great idea! A little more personal. I was tacky and just sent my doula a check anyway. She didn't complain

books are a great idea! And how about a massage for HER! I was so sore after labors LOL (actually more sore than my OWN labor!). I know a massage for me would have been very appreciated. If she collects trinkets from each client (or get her started on that). I collected a bead from each one--makes it special.
