"Pushed" by Jennifer Block
or
"Born in the USA" by Marsden Wagner

I've got a little bit of money on a gift card and would like to get one of these. Has anyone read either or both of them? I'm wondering which is more accessible and easy-to-read. Or which one would be a better one to have to lend out to friends who might not already know much about the subject. Just wondering what anyone has thought of these books.

I couldn't wait. I read some reviews and went ahead and ordered Pushed. I'm excited to read it!

I read pushed at the start of my last pregnancy. I REALLY liked it. It's a little shocking to hear some of the behind-the-scenes stuff, but it's really a very fascinating look into obstetrics.

So after I ordered Pushed, I went to pick up a book on hold at the library and that's what it was. I forgot I had it on hold! So I've read the first chapter. It's sooo good! I wish I had read it early in my pregnancy. Definitely makes me want to do a lot of things differently next time.

Now I need to decide if I want to keep the one that I bought, so maybe other people I know can read it.

Some of the things I've read so far just make me so angry. I had never heard of the whole "pushing in the parking lot" strategy in order to get a VBAC and I thought hey that's not a bad idea. Then I couldn't believe when I read in the same paragraph about the woman who did that, went into the hospital already pushing, and they told her they were giving her oxygen but put her under general anesthesia and did a c-section!!!

I promise I won't post everything I read in this book, but I have to post this one. I just read about a woman who had an unassisted home birth with twins at 40 weeks. Her active labor lasted about 2 hours. The first baby was 7 lbs 10 oz and the second baby was a footling breech that weighed 8 lbs 11 oz. It was just so refreshing to read about a truly normal physiological twin birth!

The book says that legally that is assault and battery. They didn't say anything else about that specific example though.

I will have to look for those at my midwifes office next time, she lets us borrow her books! I'm very intrigued now and really want to read them.
