I just found out that the meds they gave me to stop the contractions have actually been linked to brain damage and autism in children!!!! The studies aren't conclusive, but that just freaks me out. Why would they give medications to a woman who is pregnant that could cause problems with her baby? And why didn't I look it up? I am so worried now, what if I just gave our baby brain damage or autism because I was upset about being uncomfortable. I would never be able to forgive myself. I am just sick to my stomach right now.

I know a TON of women who have been given terbutaline for pre-term labor and their babies are perfectly healthy. If I had pre-term contractions I would take meds over delivering a preemie as well. Also, most medication used to stop contractions is off label. Don't be hard on yourself. Hugs!

I also would look at the cost benefit analysis of a preemie vs a very small potential of unproven side effects.

They love to blame the actions of the parents for Autism, because it makes people think that they have to power to prevent it.

Guess what?

Your baby will be fine. If he DOES has Autism, it will NOT be because of something you did. My nephews had NONE of the things "linked to Autism" and are still Autistic.

Don't stress yourself out. The next study they do will link breathing and Autism, or plastic, or water.

Because those risks are LESS than the risks of NOT giving you the drug. You have to wt the pros/cons. If you declined it and had a premie you would have felt bad also. Its mommy guilt we are screwed either way when it comes to the guilt
