My advice would be to NOT consider yourself "full term" in 5 weeks. It will only make those final 4 weeks or so seem even longer.

I would ask your midwife what she suggests as natural labor starters for when the time comes.

I'm not sure you ladies are understanding my question. I am very aware that it will most likely take me the next month to go into labor and that was not my point.

I would like to know natural labor starters when I get there. Guess I will stick to my real life friends who answered this question. I wanted to see if there was more info out there.

Sorry to sound snippy but I don't need to be told how long I have left in my pregnancy.

I know you already got some good advice on FB but I wanted to throw mine out here too. I started using EPO and doing nipple stimulation as well as pressure points right around 37ish weeks and my daughter is the only one that I went into labor on my own with. My OB told me time and time again- that things like EPO and nipple stimulation won't MAKE me go into labor but it will help if my body is ready and it can help to prepare. And if nothing else it made me feel like I was doing something productive to not have to have another induction. I ended up going into labor right at 39 weeks and gave birth to a healthy screaming 7 lbs 12 ounces little girl. I don't think that the things I did MADE me go into labor but I do think it helped prepare my cervix and uterus for labor.

Oh I guess I didn't understand your wording on the OP. Anyway I started using EPO(orally) at about 38 weeks and gave birth at 40 weeks 4 days. Just like poster above not sure if it did anything but didn't hurt anything.

I started listening to a hypnosis script to encourage baby to come out this week. Of course, during the "talk to your baby" part, I got a very strong impression that her lungs weren't ready yet. So I'm not going to listen to it again until I hit 38 weeks. My midwife wanted me to start EPO at 36 weeks, but I still haven't found it at the store yet.

But... EPO will help get things ready, not start stuff. Nipple stimulation can get contractions started. Sex with orgasm is a great way to encourage it to start. The sperm will do what EPO would do, and the orgasm will help you start to contract. Walking a lot is also great.

I second the orgasm suggestion. I started a small dose of EPO at 36 weeks

I know you already know this, being full-term is anytime after 38 weeks. The nurse and midwifery-student in me had to say it, sorry!!

As far as natural labor inducers, I hate to say it but nothing will work until your body is ready. I tried ALL the tricks with my first and nothing worked (including pitocin and every medical intervention you could think of)

EPO is a great suggestion though. I took a pill orally and intravaginally every night after I was term. Spicy foods, eggplant parmigiana, lots of walking and stair climbing, SEX SEX and more SEX, orgasms...all of those are safe and fun ways to try to kick start labor. Nipple stimulation will also sometimes work, but I don't really recommend that except for what is typically done as foreplay because sometimes women can cause uterine hyperstimulation from that.

Oh and one thing you can do now is to start drinking raspberry leaf tea (has to be real RLT, not the fake stuff) every day. It'll really help tone up your uterus

Ginny, I thought full term was considered anything after 37 weeks?

That's how it used to be, but the new style of thinking is that 37 weekers are considered "late preterm." Not quite preterm and not quite term. They are kind of their own special entity because babies born at that time can go either way.

Now if a baby is born at 37 weeks from a spontaneous labor (ie not medically induced), then they are much more likely to be perfectly fine.

Meow.

36 weeks is not full-term, btw.

Anyways, EPO, nipple stim, sex, orgasm. I will say..those all worked for me....when my water broke I was already a "stretchy 4, almost 5" and it was FAST! I dunno if it helped it happen SOONER, but I think it all helped things go more quickly and more smoothly.
