I was just looking at changing my daughter's last name and boy it looks like more trouble than it's worth...But a middle name may be different. For the surname I would have to file an announcement in the paper, wait for objections, then go through the process of getting the certificate, and THEN change her social security card and all that. So, so much.
But like I said, it may be a lot different for a middle.
Just lurking and saw this - as far as the birth certificate goes, you would have to check with your state and amend based on their procedures. As far as the social security card goes, SSA does not consider middle names to be part of the "legal" name for our purposes, so you can change the card with no proofs. Literally, we can put "rainbowstardancer" for a middle name if you want.
1) sam NEVER goes by Samuel
2) we always call him Hunter Sam
3) every other middle name choice we have is 1 syllable (Grace, Jude, Mae, Joe) so i hate that he would be the only one with a 1 syllable mn
