Getting Pregnant

figured I should introduce myself!

I'm Ami - almost 33, have 2 wonderful boys, Adam was born via crash c/s with general anesthesia and is 5 years old. Nathan was my first all natural VBAC and is 3.

After nearly 3 years of TTC with one loss, we are finally expecting again - another september baby, so weird to have all my kids born within a few weeks of each other.

Anyway, I am planning my second all natural hospital VBAC, found a m/w I think I really like. Hopefully I can keep my BP in cooperation this time, and not have to worry about the possibility of a c/s.

I do have a question for you guys. We are alone out here where we live now, my babysitters (the inlaws) live 2 hours away and the hospital is 90 minutes away (in a different direction than my inlaws) not counting traffic. So I am already worrying about timing to get to the hospital.

My labor with Nate was about 11 hours, I don't want to get to the hospital as early as last time, I spent 9 hours there fighting off nurses and doing things I didn't want to do. But I also don't want to deliver on the side of the road.

When should I call the babysitters and then ultimately leave for the hospital?

yeah I know - I am worried way in advance!

As for when to call your inlaws and leave for the hospital, that's a really hard one. Lots of people follow the 5-1-1 rule, where contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting one minute each, for at least an hour. Personally though, my contractions were always closer together from almost the start, so I would go by the 2-1-1 or so rule. Others say that if you can't talk through contractions then go in, but again that's subjective.

Would your inlaws be willing to just come up whenever labor starts for you and hang out? That way you know that they'd be there with your kids, but you could leave for the hospital if things went faster, etc.

I suppose telling my inlaws I am actually pregnant should be my first step! haha!

I was thinking about calling them early and just having them here, but ugg - I really dislike my inlaws, I don't want them here while I'm in labor, they probably wouldn't leave me alone. such a catch 22

Maybe they could take the boys out to eat or something? So, they wouldn't be in your face?

Welcome! I have no advice for your childcare issues. I am expecting #1 and DH and I are stressed out about finding "childcare" for our dog while I'm in labor lol.
