Hi ladies!
I've just started peeking around this board, and thought I'd throw this out there, I'd love thoughts, opinions, personal stories, etc on delayed chord clamping. I am expecting my 1st mid-July, and started researching dcc pretty early on and believe it is a gift I want to give my daughter. I've heard of delaying any where from 5 mins, to 1 hr. What are your experiences?

I requested they delay it until the cord stopped pulsing (which is usually less than 5 minutes). It ended up being longer than that because they had to wheel me upstairs to a room so they just wrapped her and me up with blankets, left us as-is (placenta not delivered, cord still attached) while they did so.

My midwife practices delayed cord clamping. I can't remember exactly how long they left mine but it was quite a while before I remember DH cutting it. I would definitely request it if it wasn't something my care provider typically did.

I've always requested that they delay clamping until the cord stops pulsating. The longest it took was 10 minutes (Vi's birth).

I didn't know about it so didn't request it with my son's birth. I really want this this time, but I fear we'll have to argue for it.

We clamp it when we get around to it. Usually within an hour. One was much sooner b/c he had a super short cord and neither one of us could move. I was stuck on my hands and knees until my husband cut the cord!
