Baby doesn't seem to want to come and I'm approaching 42 weeks quickly.
I go in at 41 wks 5 days and my midwife said she could break my water if desired Monday. Of course a lot depends on nst and ultrasound.

I'm not a huge fan of breaking my water, but they allow 72 hrs before having to go to be hospital and hook up to pitocin. They break it at the birth center and let you go home, etc to labor and come back when things pick up.

The cons to pitocin seem more, plus being in a hospital. I just really want to go into labor myself and let my water break naturally. However, I really do feel like baby is too comfy and won't come without a nudge. Seems like the lesser or two evils. Ive already fought for an accurate due date to I've me an extra week to bake the baby (irregular cycles). I'm 4-5 cm and mostly effaced. I just seem stalled and unable to move onto the next stage. And it's been a week!!

If also been unable to work which is a huge financial hit...I was counting on two more paychecks! I need to get back to work ASAP and feel like I'm using up all my leave time dealing with early labor issues.

Are there any hilly areas around you? Walking up and down hills started my labor lol.

If I were in your situation I'd be at a loss as well. Breaking your water can either put you into labor so fast and you end up with an intense long labor (my water broke which started my labor so contractions were intense from the beginning) or it can do nothing at all and you end up on a time clock. If you're 4-5 cm already I would assume you'd go straight into labor. That's my guess though. Maybe they can give you just a small dose of pitocin to get labor started and then unhook it? Hmmm, I guess breaking your water would be the more "natural" approach but I don't know. I'm very leary of breaking the waters just because of personal experience that could have been dangerous to me and my baby without knowing it ( I had placenta velamentous and had no idea and my water broke on its own).

I too would not be fond of having my membranes ruptured due to past experience. (My waters went spontaneously but nothing else followed in terms of regular contractions and I was showing signs of infection so had to labour with IVs).

HOWEVER, you have some favourable conditions there being 4-5cm and that could well mean that breaking your waters WOULD start some action for you.

You have the weekend to try and jump-start things completely naturally - what about walking, red raspberry leaf tea, nipple/clitoral stimulation, more walking, bouncing on a birth ball, S.E.X, and yet more walking?

Aside from doing all the natural stuff (which I'd recommend first), what about stripping the membranes? I would choose that over water breakage or pitocin.

I'd be wearing my husband, vibrator, and breast pump out at that point. I also HIGHLY recommend acupuncture and massage therapy.

After that, I am one of the few that might opt for pit before rupturing the water. I cringe to see waters broken before 6cm.

Que, much as I'm opposed to having induction juice, I think I would actually be with you on that one.
