Thought it would be fun, not to start debates, but to find out how diverse our group is... Share reasons too if you would like....

I prefer females because I prefer midwives. However the female OB who delivered Ani was an ogre.

I prefer a woman. Only because I feel she may be able to relate.

i really like the company for woman, in dealing with ANYTHINg woman realted. i cannot see how a man doctor could really relate with childbirth.

having said that, my midwife's assistant is a lesbian, and i really felt like she didnt help in the situation, because she herself has never given birth. she was a nice lady, but man... my husband was WAY more help than that.

but definatly for the most part.. i am all for the help of SISTAS~

as for the second part of the question.. i chose that me and my sigificant other being my hubby, would deliver the baby. i couldnt have anyone that i didnt trust delivering my baby. i have heard way too many horror stories about poor babies not getting the gental birth it deserves but some docktor panicking.

It really depends for me. I had the most awesome OB who was a male. Seems the female OBs in my area are all so medically involved that theyre not supportive at all. The male OB I had worked extensively with midwives & he was also a DO - not an MD.

I loved him!

I prefer a true midwife, though... not even any old midwife - especially not those MEDwives...

I prefer having a midwife but since my insurance didnt cover one I went to an OB practice. There were 5 OBs there....3 of them men, 2 of whom I didnt like. But I lucked out and got the 1 male OB I liked and had a great experience.

i vote for a woman, but it has to be a woman who has personally given birth- would you hire a mechanic who had never driven a car?
I would have my fiance help me deliver if i didn't trust the available birth attendant. my cousin died being born because the doctor who delivered her was trying to get home to bed and broke her neck. ..

i was going to say the same. i think first time through its especially important for me to have a midwife who is a mother herself.

For a midwife I would definitely prefer a woman. For a regular OB I can go either way. Mine was male and I really liked him. From my experience with female doctors most of them were condesending and rude. I doubt thats true in all cases but that has unfortuantly been my experience.

If I didnt trust the person I would turn to DH. I think I would actually prefer my mother though.

I prefer a modwife, if there are men midwife (are there?) i'd listen to what he had to say and go from there. If I didn't find a provider I trusted I would have a UC. If it was my first baby I don't know what I would have done. Move I guess. lol
