Hi ladies, my name's Lindsey & I'm expecting a little girl any day now. I am so disappointed in myself, as I've done almost nothing to prepare for this birth, unlike the birth of my 1st, which I spent months preparing for. I need some advice, so here's some background in a nutshell.

I planned for a NCB with DS 2 years ago, but after laboring for 12 hours at home with my doula, I arrived at the hospital & found I was 4 cm & felt I couldn't handle several more hours of contractions. The epi slowed things down tremendously & 13 hours (& plenty of pit) later, I delivered my DS. All in all, I'm 'ok' with how this delivery went, but because nearly every woman in my family has ended up with c-sections for inability to progress (fast enough), I desperately want to avoid the epi this time to ensure I don't end up with one, too.

Yes I know what the expect this time around & yes it will hopefully be shorter, but I don't want to depend on just this. My doula will be with me again & I have just now borrowed the HypnoBirth CD set from a friend of mine, as I am certain that my inability to relax both during & between contractions contributed to the long labor.

My question is, do you feel it's worth it to try listening to these CDs now? I may have days, maybe weeks left, but I need to either commit myself to those or spend this time practicing something else. Thoughts, please!!!!

I would start listening now. Just keep in mind that you will have to dedicate quite a bit of time every day if you want to get the technique down in time.

I agree, go ahead and start listening now. Keep up the positive mindset. You will do great!

Any updates, Lindsey? I've been thinking about you since I saw this thread. I hope that if you have had the birth already, that everything went well and turned out the way you hoped for!

Thanks, ladies :-) I'm still pregnant (in my 39th wk!) & can't say I've been consistent in listening to the CDs, but fortunately I'm not new to self hypnosis either, so at least I have that going for me! I'm looking to get a portable CD player tmrw so I can listen to the Birthing Day CD while laboring. God I hope this goes well!!

I just wanted to add that you can have a NCB without Hypnobabies. I didn't do them. The only prep we did for our birth was hire a doula and we did that last minute. Thankfully!!! I think having experience from your prior birth will help a ton. I had no idea what I was getting into but will draw from my last birth to help me in the future.

Yeah, I didn't do any special preparations, either, for either of my two births, and things went just fine both times. It's not like doing Hypnobabies is somehow a prerequisite for having a natural birth, or something. It can certainly help (for some women), but you can do this just fine on your own, too!

Best of luck to you! Remember that your body was built to do this.
