Sorry I've been MIA, I've tried to not spend so much time on the computer during Lent. It's almost over though, so hopefully I will be able to spend more time with y'all in the future!
The exciting news: You all might remember a while back that I was going to start working towards becoming a home birth midwife. Well, I was hoping to start looking for a preceptor in the fall, but a position opened up sooner than I expected and I started my first day today. It was so awesome! She is an inspirational lady to know and I feel so privileged to learn from her!
There are a few different routes to become a Certified Professional Midwife and attend home births. I am doing a self-study, apprenticing under a midwife for a few years while she trains me, and after I have proven myself ready, I will sit for the NARM exam in order to receive my certification. Sometimes it's difficult to take this route because you have to find a willing midwife and you have to be VERY self-motivated. I thought it was going to take me a couple of years to get a position. The midwife I wanted to work with already had two students, and that's usually the most a midwife will take on. I was fortunate that another student stepped down early and a position opened up with the midwife that I always dreamed to work with. It's like a dream come true. I'm so excited to see what the next few years bring!
