So we have discussed placental encapsulation a little before, but I have a few questions for BTDT moms! This is all new to me, but I'm really hoping it will help with PPD (I had it really bad after my second baby).
Did you consume any of it raw (like in a smoothie) right after the birth, before having it encapsulated? Did you find that helpful with immediate recovery and energy?
Was the encapsulation done with the raw/dehydrated placenta, or prepared the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) way of being steamed with warming herbs prior to dehydrating it?
My mom has offered to encapsulate mine, so I just need to decided how I want her to do it. I've heard some people say it's best to leave it raw, and others prefer the TCM rout. Thoughts?

I had mine encapsulated, but didn't end up taking any (probably will take them this time). I do know people who have consumed it raw to help with post partum bleeding, but I have no first hand knowledge of that. If I remember correctly, the gal who did mine did steam it with some herbs and stuff before dehydrating.

I ended up donating mine to the center last time for them to study and show off since it was "unique" lol.
But this time I plan on encapsulating and getting the tincture done. I'm actually going to see if my doula will do mine since I know she's been wanting to start adding that as part of her service. I'm curious to see what others say. I've always assumed mine would be done the dehydrating way and not TCM.
I wish I could find someone to do this. I have heard it also helps with pp bleeding, which is a big concern of mine, BUT I hear you have to use it raw.
I've heard one of the best emergency treatments for hemorrhaging is to place a piece of the raw placenta under the moms tongue (I know, sounds gross, but we're talking emergencies here). So it makes sense that it would help with pp bleeding!
I have seen it used in emergencies for bleeding. It works wonders. I prepare it for my clients using TCM- simply because that is the most tried and true method that has stood the test of time. Many doulas around here will reserve a small piece beforehand and make a smoothie to consume on day one, but I am unsure about eating anything like that "raw" due to my religious beliefs so I do not offer that because I haven't found a resolution for that myself.

I ate mine raw in smoothies and I didn't bleed much at all. I also froze it and had some in smoothies right at the start of my period to boost my mood and milk supply. For me it helped. But it could have been all in my head
My dad mine. I think he tried it raw, but thats not for me! I believe he steamed it first then dehydrated it. I took them for 2 week pp but I'm not sure if it helped or not! I felt good, and healed faster than with DD, so I guess it did, but I didn't notice any huge difference.
I did mine TCM because it seemed like the easiest way to go (and it was super easy!) but I'm looking into other ways to prepare it raw next time to keep all the hormones and enzymes. If you prep it raw, let us know how it goes.
