It depends. Strictly speaking, natural childbirth is the way nature intended - with no interventions.

But, that said, I lean toward natural childbirth meaning it being with no UNNECESSARY interventions. I had my twins in, what I consider, a natural childbirth - even though I was induced with pitocin because it was a necessary intervention.

No pain medications and no unnecessary interventions, I believe, is what most of us here consider natural childbirth.

I would have to agree. And holy cow, I can't imagine no pain meds w/pitocin...yesterday just about killed me and I had a short labor!

I consider NCB no pain meds and no unneccessary interventions.

Everyone's ideas of unnneccessary interventions is different though.

Ok thanks...I was just wondering because I was induced with Pitocin with my daughter, after i failed to progress on my own...but i had no pain meds....and someone told me i didnt have a natural childbirth...Like i was a "bad" person or something....not that I think I am, or whatnot, just wanted someone elses POV...thanks![/b]
You're such a bad mommy - getting pitocin was cheating - you should have labored for 3 days at least, lol - ok, you know I'm so j/k I would absolutely NOT want pit without pain relief - you're not a bad mom but you're nuts

I think moms who go without pain meds and get Pit should get an even bigger medal than those of us who went into labor naturally.

I consider it no pain relief, and no unnecessary interventions. I had to be induced early because of cholestasis (liver problem), and they used cervadil and misoprostil, then broke my water - luckily I didn't need pitocin! I still consider it a natural birth though, since I used no pain relief, and the induction was necessary. Thankfully, once they broke my water I wasn't in labbor forever though! Broke my water around 5:30pm, and Kaiden was born at 2:30 that morning.
