Sine I know a few of you ladies have been doing research on GBS (Group B Strep) and a few of you are VERY good at doing digging and coming up with some great stuff I need your help if you can.... When I go to the dr next week Im going to tell her that I dont want the antibiotics... I really dont want to be tied down by a IV during labor and I know from what I read from what Abbey (CoveredinMommy) Posted awhile ago about having a home birth with GBS its not really necessary! My dr made it seem like it was my only choice!!! THATS NOT MY ONLY CHOICE... I just want to have some facts ready and stuff because I know when I go over my birth plan with the dr and I say this that the dr is going to try to talk me out of it and I know my mom is as well... Everyone will but you know what all that matters is what I want and what Britton wants!!!!!

I know that because of this I dont want hardly any vaginal exams.... Can you ladies help me? like with the facts and stuff? PLEASE!!!!

Why did they test you so early? Aren't you due in February?? I'm due in less than four weeks and I just had my GBS test yesterday.

At any rate, I do not know as much as the other lovely ladies here on this board, but crunchymama did have a great sticky from a while back regarding GBS options.

Here ya go!

You have the *right* to refuse any medical treatment that you wish, but your doctor also has the *right* to refuse treatment to you if you do not follow his rules and do things his way. I chose to refuse the GBS testing all together, but I have a midwife who is very open to this, and its pretty normal in her practice. If you cannot get things worked out with your OB, the least he can do is give you the heparin lock. The antibiotics only take a short time to be administered, and then they could close it off and pull you off the bags. You could also demand to be retested for the GBS when it is closer to your due date. They test so early for this stuff, and it just doesnt make any sense! Just because you have it today, doesnt mean you will have it in a week. And just because you DONT have it today, doesnt mean you WONT have it in a week, kwim? Good luck, let us know how it goes!

I can give you some facts and will if you want them , but I would say that facts probably aren't going to change the docs mind. Just DEMAND a retest and we'll deal with the rest later. Do not let them rupture your membranes, do not get any vaginal exams, they don't mean anything anyway, and don't let them do a rectal swab when they test you, unless of course you think the baby is coming out your butt

All the agencies with authority on the subject say testing before 37-39 weeks is stupid, so you shouldn't have to push TOO hard.

I just posted an article for VBAC moms but really I think it's important for everyone to know that according to federal law the hospital is to act according to your treatment choices not their policy. It's a longer thread but give it a read - I think you'll find some helpful stuff in there!
