I am considering a natural birth this time and have heard about programs for self-hypnosis during labor. I know there are a few out there like hypnoBabies (I'm really interested in this one) and hypnoBirthing. I was just wanting some individual experiences that are not paid for, ya know.

Just a few questions as well:
Would you do hypnosis again for your next birth?
How much time/money was invested?
Did you have a class or a home study course or other(explain, please)
Was there anything unexpected while using it?
Any other imformation you wish you would've known?

TIA

I didn't really do any specific method. I used a focal point and concentrated on it and breathed deeply and relaxed through the contractions. The main thing for me was that I needed complete silence and no distractions during the contractions--no questions from the nurses, no touching, NOTHING. I will definitely be doing it again this time around--it worked very well for me right up until transition, when the pain got so intense that it was hard to concentrate through the contractions. But by that time it was nearly over. I wish I had known how easy it was.

I used hypnobirthing and will definitely be using it again for this baby! I agree about the not wanting to be touched during a contraction or talked to. I didn't mind if others talked amongst themselves but everyone needed to leave me alone so I could focus and relax. It helped to have the lights off in the room too. I had a pain free labor thanks to it until the last couple contractions before pushing (pushing didn't hurt either) when they made me change my position to a very uncomfortable one for me. I think they were really just buying time for the dr. to get in my room because they didn't expect me to go as fast as I did. I took the hypnobirthing classes that were offered through my hospital (about $175 for the 5 week course, book, and cd). I think the biggest thing that surprised me was how well it worked! I tested it too, I tried a contraction not using the techniques I had learned and tensed up through it and it hurt like hell! That's all the proof I needed that it worked for me. I loved it, can't wait to do it again in a few months!

They made me change positions at the last minute, too... and I know for sure they were buying time for the doc to get there. Though personally, I would have been fine with DH catching her.

This was something I considered for Kailey, but I didn't end up doing it. When I get in so much pain, I go into a trance so it's like my own form of hypnobirthing and it worked just fine for me. Good for you that it worked!!
