Who used hydrotherapy (water) to relieve pain for their labor? How did it work for you? Could you tell major differences? Would you suggest this to other people? And last but not least, shower or tub?

Me! I had a water labor, I was in and out. The water did help soothe the contractions (warm water) but the shape of the tub in the hospital SUCKED, you couldn't get in a comfortable position at all I'm not sure if the water helped a tremendous amount, but it did help. I plan on doing it again with baby number two.

I haven't had my baby but I love having baths right now because it relieves so much tension.

had a water labor with DD and loved it! I swear it's the only reason I was able to go natural!

This time I'm planning a waterbirth

I used water in two of my last births and did find that it relieved a great deal of pain. Unfortunately I was also hooked up to pitocin so having an IV was somewhat limiting to positions I could use. This time we are preparing for a home water birth and I'm looking forward to being IV free and able to do as much labor in the tub as I want!

I also have a jacuzzi tub at home and I haven't had my baby either but it feels SO GOOD! Takes the weight and pressure away! I am planning on laboring at home as long as possible especially since they only have showers at the hospital, no tubs.

I HIGHLY recommend being in the water during labor. I was in a large jacuzzi tub in the hospital the entire time. I got out once so they could see how dilated I was and the contractions were much more intense for me. I got right back in and didn't get out until I had to push! I would have pushed in the tub, but hospital policy didn't allow it. I also had the lights dimmed and really soft, relaxing music playing in the background.

It's hard enough to find a hospital that will allow tubs.. It's so frustrating when they don't let the final labour go in there. When I was at a waterbirthing seminiar, lots of midwives just told the nurses to make a note the patient "wouldn't get out" and they had "accidents." I hope I have "an accident" if we can get a tub in there.
