our doc delivers at 3 hospitals, only 2 of them are close to us, the one that i toured today and is closest to us..NOT one of them 2 that are close to us.
the other is about a mile-1.5 miles away, but a VERY busy maternity ward and i think i will get ignored, dismissed and rushed there. eventhough it is a VERY reputable and nice hospital. it's my second choice if i had to make a list. we'll be touring this one.
the other one i haven't toured yet but is a couple miles down the highway, not far though - around 5 minutes like the one above. this is another newer hospital like the one i toured today that is less than a mile from our house, but i haven't heard anything about it and haven't even seen it. we will be touring there as well, to check it out.
so my question is this:
i would love to be closer to home, 5 minutes down the street, easier for dh, longer laboring at home..etc. but if i go in there and my doc doesn't deliver there, then do we get charged another doc fee if another doc has to do the birth? and if our doc won't come to our hosiptal then who would? are there on call docs specifically for the hospital?
hmmm... good questions. I think there are on-call docs for the hospital. There would have to be for those women who never get maternity care or are out of town etc...
And I'm guessing since you're on private insurance it would cover whatever doctor delivered you. I know at least here if, for instance, your doc drops you at the last minute, if you were on state medical they wouldn't get a dime, not even for past appointments cause state just pays a lump sum at the end of the pregnancy to the current dr.
But I dont' know for sure. Hopefully the other one is as nice as the first you toured, even if it's a bit farther away.

about the hospital thing...i will update this in the other "bump in the road" post as well for reference...
she said it would be better to go to the other newer hospital that our doc delivers at because she said she has seen it too many times where a woman just walks in and gets horrible mean treatment from an on=call doc that is against VBACs. the mom ends up getting bullied and treated like crap. she said she knows my doc very well, has dealt with him a lot of times and that he has a heart, and that if i come in at 7-8 cm ready to go then he will just probably say ok. i did ask her if i should tell him ahead of time, and she said it's a iffy situation and my choices with my specific doctor would be:
apeal to his heart - he is a softy - and come in with my research in hand and be very strong on my decision, then he mght say somehting along the lines of...don't come in until you are past 5cm or i will give you a cesarean...she said there might end up being an ultimatum like that.
schedule the cesarean, then call in the on that day and just say im not feeling well, we need to reschedule....
either way it's going to happen though, i tell ya that!![/b]
