I just got back from my first appt, and I am sooo happpy with my midwife!! I didn't ask all the questions I was going to because when I asked about natural childbirth his response was "I will work with whatever goals you have for your labor, I just ask that you be open minded just in case." He was so reassuring. He talked about some of the methods that he always recommends and mentioned birthing ball, walking, and whirlpool tub. He also said that unless I am one of the very few women that is most comfortable laying on my back during labor and pushing, that he doesn't allow women to do that. He did ask that I stay open to IV drugs and/or epi just to be sure that I don't stress myself or tire myself to needing a c-section. He talked about c-sections as a last resort. All in all, I think I made a great choice with him as my dr. I am so relieved now!

I've actually met ONE male midwife before

But, I'm still really surprised he said stay open minded to IV drugs or epidurals.

But, even with that he sounds like hes worlds ahead of your average OB/GYN.
