Hi, ladies!

My name is Karen and I'd like to join the forum here. I'm 35 and TTC #2. We've been trying since the beginning of the year, and so far no luck. My DH has set a "deadline" for us which ticks me off a bit since he's the main reason why we waited so long to have the first kid! We have until April 2009 (his 36th birthday), and then he says we'll talk about adoption if we still want another child. He's got this mentality of 36 being "old" and the fact that many of the men in his family don't have long life-spans! Good Lord! I don't know what to say to him to change his mind. He's very firm about this! So, I'm just hoping that we won't have to get to that point, that we'll get PG soon!

Just needed to vent a little tonight!

Hello & Karen! I'm Becky (34) and DH is Tony (also 34). We've been TTC#1 since January. I co-host the board with Jessica. I'm glad you found our little board here, we're a small group and these ladies are incredible!!! I assume the pic in your siggy is your daughter - she's so adorable.

I'm sorry your DH is setting a deadline, that has to be frustrating . . . and I hope you quickly get your BFP so it's not an issue!

to our board!! I'm Jessica (40) and DH is Paul (38) and we have been TTC#1 since January. I co-host the board with Becky. We do have a little group here, that just seems to be growing almost daily!! This is awesome!

I'm sorry DH has set the dreaded "deadline". So I'm sending you to get that BFP so you don't have to even come close to that date. Since you've been trying since the first of the year I have a few questions for you....Are you charting? And, have you seen your doctor to discuss how long you should TTC before seeking other help and to make sure everything is a go at this point? Since I've been charting, I've learned so much about my body. Sometimes, I think that's not a good thing .

Anyhoo, welcome aboard and we hope your stay here is short and sweet!!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the baby dust floating my way!

JessicaC, I'm not charting actually. The first day of my last period was July 28. I met someone in a maternity store who started on the same day and told me that 14 days after the first day of your AF is your most fertile. Is that true? Plus, I know the discharge signs and some other "tricks" that I think helped us the first time. I haven't yet talked to my OB, but that's probably on the calendar soon, too!

I'll keep you guys posted! Thanks again for the welcome!! Good luck to everyone!!

Karen, to answer you Ovulation day question, some women do ovulate around day 14, with others it varies from cycle to cycle. Have your cycles been consistently the same length? If so, you may be able to determine when you ovulate by knowing your cycle length, & following your "tricks" you used before: (your discharge/cervial fluid, etc.). I personally found that charting helped me tremendously.

Good luck & I hope you get your BFP soon!

About my cycle, the thing is that I haven't been paying much attention to it. I actually skipped my period last month, so I think that means I didn't ovulate at all. (?) I thought I might be pregnant, but each time I took a test I got a BFN. And then I got my next period right on time! So, I'll start watching. I tried to chart when we were TTC #1, but I can't get dedicated enough to it. I do, however, watch the discharge signs and we'll go at it all this weekend and cover not only Day 14 but also Day 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17 and so on (trying IS fun after all!) And then just see. We believe in God and in God's timing. That timing certainly came into play with our 1st child*, as my DH just completed his MBA a couple weeks before we were due!

*Backstory: It had taken a year to TTC our daughter Anna, and we had wondered what the heck was going on, but once we knew our due date and knew DH's graduation date, we saw that it was for the best that it took that long to conceive. With as busy as DH was with the MBA, having a 1st child/newborn wouldn't have been that fun for either of us!!! We live away from both sides of our families, and it would have been much harder if we'd have had his MBA to deal with as well as a new baby!

I understand your wanting to leave it in God's hands and you'll conceive when He wants you to. But, here's some more info for you. It used to be that a "woman ovulated at the mid-point in her cycle" a 30 day cycle would be day 15 for O, a 40 day cycle would be day 20 for O, etc. That is just not true. It's also been thought that O day was 14 days before the start of the next cycle (1st day of real bleeding, not spotting). Again, that's not true either. Every woman is different. For example, my cycles range from 25-28 days and I O anywhere from days 12-14 (I'm one of the lucky ones that has the "normal" cycle). You won't truly know when you O unless you chart. But, I understand where you are coming from. So, here's the best advise I can give you if you don't want to chart or use OPK's.......BD (baby dance) 3-4 times a week, that's on average of every other day. Your CM is only an indication that you could be Oing, not necessarily "when" you are Oing. You could have your most fertile CM (EWCM) a day or two before you O, and if you cramp at O it too could be a day or two before OR even a day or two after the actual O. So, to be safe.....BD 3-4 times a week.

Good Luck!!

Looking back at my calendar (I make note of when I have my AF and how long it lasts), I haven't had an AF pattern. It's been erradic - some times 28 days, some times 35 days, once it was even 42 days between the first days! This last time it was 63 days! Do you think I should see my OB and discuss this with her?

It's always good to keep track of your cycle, and if there continues to be an erratic pattern then you should discuss it with your doctor. I'm one of the unlucky ones whose cycles are very erratic and long. I'm in my 8 month TTC and just finished cycle #5. My doctor does not want me going too long between cycles, so once it gets into the 40ish days and I haven't O'd then he starts me on progesterone pills. My cycle that just ended was 53 days. One thing I like about charting and taking my temps is that after several cycles I now can see how long my LP stage (stage after ovulation) is going to be and I know when to test or when to expect AF.

I agree with Jessica's advice - BD 3-4 times a week (approximately every other day) & that hopefully will get you your BFP!!! Good Luck!!

Well, I logged back into the Fertility Friend website. I'll try to keep track of my temps each morning and see if it helps. Thanks for the tips and encouragement!
