basically the blood test never happened. There was a mixup in what code was put in and a urine pg test was requested not a blood test. I went after work, arrived about 6:00 so only the lab was open. They would have had to have a doctor's authorization to change the request, so I was only able to do the urine test. Of course the urine test was going to be a negative, as I had just tested that morning with an HPT. Grrrrrrr! Frustrating, and a waste of my time.
So, I emailed my doctor's office this morning. Hopefully I'll hear something from them soon. I don't have high hopes for this cycle due to my temps dropping some (although they did go a little today). I would like to know something definitely soon one way or the other. Also, I've continued taking the progesterone per my doctor's instructions. AF will not show until I stop taking this, so I need to know when to do this as well. What is the latest you ladies have heard of someone getting a positive pg test after ovulation? I'm currently 15dpo, next Tuesday when I've requested my doctor put in a blood test request will be 20dpo. Is it even likely at that point, or do I just assume now that I'm out for this cycle?
Thanks ladies for listening!!! I will be MIA for most of the day as we have an Awards Ceremony here at work that I've been coordinating. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get back on once we finish later this evening - if I'm not so exhausted I just fall into bed. LOL! I'm expecting over 200 people. Alot of work, but fun to plan. I'm in heels (somewhat comfortable), a skirt (I hate dressing up), and a sweater as the Mariott is always freezing. Let's see how long the heels stay on. LOL!
Take care & I'll catch up with all of you later!!!
Sorry about the coding error and the fact that you will have to go back to do lab work for a second time. It is lousy that people in doctor's offices manage to flub up the paperwork causing the patients unnecessary hassles. It makes you want to ask if they have trained people who do the coding or if that paperwork is outsourced to the primate house at the local zoo.
Man... how disappointing! I wish I could give you an opinion re: the pg test thing but I am just not sure? I suppose it depends on when your period would normally be due and you should count from there? I have heard of people who tried hgt's and they never got a pos. but when they went for blood work it was positive. So I know it does happen, I just don't know how often. Sorry.... Not much help.
I agree about some urine tests not coming up postive....and remember, it wasn't with FMU. I think LaLaRose in TTC#1 got negatives until 20dpo....but I can't remember for sure. I think I'll go look at her pg chart, I know she wasn't temping at that time, but I think she had been testing and getting negatives. Hope you feet survived!
ETA: LaLaRose got a BFN on 13dpo and a BFP on 21dpo......there's still hope!!!
What a pain about the mix ups with the test - just leaves you in limbo for a bit longer. My dh hates needles and he got blood taken recently and they rang to say they had forgotten to do one of the tests (and i guess disposed of the blood samples) so he had to go back again - he was not happy, neither about the extra needle, or about having to take more time off work to get it done.
I have no experience with the progesterone. I guess it is probably best to wait on a blood test to confirm results either way before going off it though? hope your event goes well!

Thanks ladies!!! My ceremony went very well, I'm just exhausted from all of it. My heels did stay on for the entire ceremony but got kicked off immediately once we got back to the office. LOL! (so did my co-worker) It should not be as crazy for me at work now - which will be nice. I've had so much going on lately.
With the doctor's office, I received a "snotty" email back from them saying the tests are the same (urine & blood) and that if I have to have a blood test I need to call the advice nurse and request a lab slip. Grrrrr! This was obviously not my doctor, and not his normal nurse who is always so helpful whenever I had any issues. They usually sign their names to the emails with a telephone number, but not this email. I was too exhausted to even deal with them this afternoon. I'll just call his nurse in the morning and talk with her. She's a sweetie, and always answers my questions. My email this morning was politely worded requesting that a lab slip be put in for a blood test next Tuesday at 20DPO, and I also asked a question about how long he wants me to continue taking the progesterone if the blood test is negative. I did remark that the test the night before had been coded wrong, but I wasn't yellling (all caps) or accusing them of messing this up. I know mistakes happen. They didn't even answer the progesterone question, only that I can call the advice nurse for a lab slip. I'm way too exhausted right now to even get upset over this tonight. Tomorrow I'll deal with these idiots and hopefully get my answers.
Take care all of you, and thanks for listening (again) to my venting!
The person who sent you the email is on crack if she/he thinks that there the same test. YES both can tell you your pregnant. But blood is more sensitive and can tell you as early as 7DPO! Plus it gives you a LEVEL of HCG (where urine gives you a range).
*mouse slap to the sender of that email!* (i really need a smiley that does a smack over someones head!)
Lala rose was who I was thinking when I said 16dpo.....I can't believe I was off that much! WOW 21 DPO. It does kind of give hope doesn't it!!!!!
This is unbelievable!. It's like you need to go to the lab to have a urine test, when we have the most sensitive ones right at home!!
I hope your Dr gets back to you with some reasonable answers. I know how agonizing the wait can be. Hopefully you'll find out soon. We're here for you whenever you need to vent (((hugs)))
Thanks ladies!!!! You're the best!!!! I just got off the phone with the nurse, and as always she is such a sweetie. She apologized for yesterday's email, and I got the impression she smacked whoever sent it over the head. LOL! She's put in a lab slip for me to have a blood test done. Yay! I usually hate to have blood tests, but in this case I'm happy. I can go in whenever to take the test. After we have the results of the blood test, they'll determine what I need to do regarding the progesterone. AF will not show until I stop taking it. But if we're actually pg I need to continue taking it.
Now, requesting opinions please. Should I do this tomorrow (lab is open 8-12ish) or just go in on Tuesday? Tomorrow I'll be 17DPO, Tuesday will be 20DPO. I'm not sure how long it'll take them to post the test result, and I have to make the decision on switching the insurance by Wednesday 5:00pm. Wednesday I'll be taking my MIL to several doctor appointments and may not be home before 5:00pm, so I really should put in my insurance changes on Tuesday. If my some miracle, we're actually pg I'll keep the current insurance.
Hey Becky! I'm late in getting in on this thread -I was a bit MIA yesterday. Wow, you've had some drama. I was bummed for you about the initial mix-up, but glad that you got to work things out with your sweet nurse. It is very encouraging that there are women out there who haven't had the BFP at home but have gotten one with a blood test! For what it's worth, I would probably go in before the weekend for the test. If it takes longer to get the results back, at least you won't be down to the wire with your insurance decision. Also, I don't think that there would be a difference between 17dpo and 20 dpo with a blood test, but I'm not a doctor. I just know that blood tests are way more sensitive, right? Whatever you decide, good luck, and I'm here for you!!!
Go tomorrow to do the bloodtest!! Obviously we all want to see a BFP, but on the logical side of things you need to know before the insurance deadline and Tuesday's cutting it waaaaaaay too close. I'm doin' the BFP dance! BFP whoot whoot! BFP whoot whoot!! I think I'm gonna go searching for a mouse slap for Angela....lol!

Hey, girls! Okay, here's my update from today's events.
I've had quite the day today, but I'm feeling much better now. To begin with, yes I did go in for my blood test this morning. I almost passed out on the technician, and thankfully Tony had gone back with me. My veins are contrary at times and decided to roll just as the tech put the needle in. She hit something besides the vein and I got intense pain. Ouch! She was able to go lower on my arm and get blood, but at that point I was still in pain from the 1st stick and got very dizzy. I'm just barely keeping from passing out and they put me in the chair and elevate my feet. My dizziness went away, and they let me go. I felt like an idiot. I've never liked needles, but I usually manage okay. I just don't look at my arm while the blood is being drawn. So with the dizziness, the pain from my arms, and the typical feeling of being weak from the blood test - I was not having a good day. I am off & on anemic and I always feel a bit woozy after blood tests. We get home and the test result was already posted. It was as I expected - a negative. Even with expecting to see a BFN, I guess everything was just too much for me. I start crying. My kitty is trying to lick my tears. Poor DH is trying to figure out what is wrong. Poor guy. I had a good cry while DH held me. Then DH told me to grab my purse that we were going out for a bit. He took me to JoAnn's and bought me all kinds of scrapbooking and cardmaking stuff. 2 packs of 12x12 paper (1 was the Christmas pack I'd been eyeing), some 8 1/2 x 11 paper for cards, some dies/embossing folders for my cuttlebug, a circle cutter (I'd also beein eyeing for a while), some clear stamps, & some stickers. He just kept tossing things in the basket. I never would have bought all this stuff at one time if it'd been me shopping alone. Wasn't that sweet of him? I've been playing around with the stuff tonight, trying to make some Christmas cards. My mind is blank right now, so I'm not being very creative but it's keeping me busy which is good.
I will not be taking the progesterone pills anymore, so my temp should start dropping and hopefully AF will show up soon so we can get onto the next cycle. I know it sounds so strange to actually wish for AF to arrive. Hopefully with me wanting her to visit, she'll leave the rest of you alone!!! How's that for a deal???
My current doctor will not authorize another round of clomid, and that's okay. At this point, he would refer me to a fertility specialist. So, I'm going to give my ovaries & body a break from the meds until January when I'll hopefully be seeing a fertility specialist. We will be switching over to the other insurance which will be effective January 1st and the infertility testing and treatment appears to be covered 100%. Wow! I do feel so blessed to have this insurance offered to us, and look forward to getting whatever we need done to get that BFP.
We will continue to try this cycle, but I don't expect much as we haven't had any success so far with and without medication. I just hope my body will O, as I've had some cycles where I never O'd. I also hope that I will O earlier in my cycle then what I previously did. Before clomid, the earliest I O'd was CD29.
So, that's my update. I'm exhausted, but feel better now then I did earlier. Thanks girls for listening to all of this. I don't know what I'd do without all of you!!!!
I'm sorry Becky It's like a BFN is not enough, you had to have a bad experience at the lab. I'm really sad for you. But, you seem to have a great DH so that's a positive thing (or bunch of things !) that came out of this bad day. It's really great that the insurance will cover whatever needs to be done. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I know right now the tunnel seems very long, but you'll be there before you know it.
Feel free to PM me or post whenever you need to vent. That's what we're here for.
Becky - you sound like me at the lab...I can't even look while they are putting the needle together, never mind into my arm. I'm so sorry about the BFN. But I'm glad that you have the chance to change insurances and that will definately be better when you start again. We're doing the same thing this month, except with the clomid. We're not doing anything else. Hopefully this will help reduce the stress that you've been under and make things a little easier.....love the DH taking you out and getting all those goodies....what a guy!!!!
