Hello, ladies! I know I kinda disappeared since I got pregnant (yay!) but you guys were so sweet when I was waiting to conceive, and I wanted to share today's update.

This is a youtube video from today's ultrasound:
YouTube - ‪Baby Boyd - 10 weeks 5 days!‬‏

It's so exciting to see everything progressing so well - after our first loss earlier this year we were so worried that my age would make this difficult, but baby looks great right now.

Oh - and wouldn't you know it... I found a really sweet Facebook group of ladies due in feb (I'm a facebook addict... lol) and I'm the oldest mom in the group. Such a weird feeling!

Hope you ladies are all doing well!

Hi, Amy! I was going to PM you soon to see where you'd been. You don't have to disappear, you are more then welcome to stick around. We also have a grad section up top too. The video is so adorable!! I just love the heart beating sound, and it's amazing to see them look so real.

Please don't disappear again on us!!!

And with the facebook group, that's great! I was/am one of the oldest in my DDC (now PR) here on JM. It was a little strange, but I got settled in anyway.

I think that's the cool thing about it - I'm settled in great, and feel right at home, but I'm just not used to being the oldest one in any group. At the same time, though, it makes me feel younger, since I'm going through the same things as a bunch of 20-somethings.

My husband asked me last night when we do the fluid test thing (he means the amnio), and I told him I wasn't sure if we were going to do it or not. I told him the short version of the m/c risks and the false positive rates causing unnecessary worry, etc. He seemed totally fine with leaving the decision up to me, but I wonder. My rates for Downs symdrome, I think, are around 1 in 100, which sounds really high until you think about it as a 1% chance. I mean... if the forecast for rain was 1%, I wouldn't bring an umbrella... so I don't think I'm too worried. And if there is something wrong, we'll deal with it when it comes.

But I'm curious... what do you guys think of amnios? Would you get one at 38?

Same for us, Marie. When I was pregnant with Katie, the doctor asked if I wanted tests because of 'advanced maternal age' (I hate that phrase with a passion btw).

We skipped the amino too. We did do the NT u/s that included bloodwork which measured the space at the back of the neck & fluid - that's done as part of a 1st trimester screening and is typically done between 11-14 weeks of pg. That along with the bloodwork gives you a ratio, percentage of the changes of your baby having certain chromosomal problems, including Down syndrome. Ours came out good, so we skipped the amino and CVS.

Hi Amy!!

Good to see you again!! I am glad you and your baby are doing great!!

My cousin just had her 1st baby in May and she is 38............she'll be 39 in August. She has Lupus and she told her Dr. that she didn't want to do an amnio because of all of the risks (she had to do IVF) and she did not want to take any chance of losing this one. They did not make her do it and she has a PERFECT and HEALTHY baby BOY!! Hope this helps!!

Hi Amy! Thanks for the update! So exciting!! I don't think I'll bother with an amnio either when I finally get pg, especially since I've already had a m/c...I don't want to do anything that might cause another one.

Congrats on the healthy baby!. thanks for sharing the U/S video.

I was in my 30's with my last pregnancy and they were trying to push amnio I said no because with my previous pregnancy the amnio threw me into labor and they had to give me meds to stop it and carry her to term. so I will be saying no to amnio again when were blessed with another pregnancy.
