Hello,
My DH & I are 35 and 35. Just started TTC our first child. Very excited but also very nervous we've waited too long to start. Just wanted to say hi! I'm trying to not drive myself completely nuts waiting. I just ovulated sooo the waiting begins LOL.

While I'm waiting, I'd really like some advice about choosing a hospital. My OB/GYN has changed practices and is now at a different hospital. However, I have strong ties to the old hospital, and I prefer the labor/delivery/recovery room setup they have. I don't know what it is called, but you stay in one room throught the entire stay, and the baby stays with you unless you want them taken to the nursery for rest. SO, I love my current dr, and I love the old hospital. How to choose when both are very important to me?

I'd love some opinions! Thanks!

Hannah

Hi Hannah and welcome!! I am Sarah (37) and my BF & I are TTC #1 as well (first for me, 2nd for him). We had a loss in February and have been trying ever since. No luck yet but I'm hoping it happens soon. I wish you and your DH the best of luck TTC. Feel free to post here as much as you'd like with questions or even if you need to vent or anything. The ladies here are great!

As for the doctor vs. hospital thing, that's a really tough choice. On one hand, you'll be seeing your doctor a lot so it makes sense to have someone you know and trust. On the other, having a baby is a crazy stressful time so you want to be at a hospital where you feel completely comfortable. I wish I could help with advice on that one. I guess I'd say to try and figure out which is more important to you.

Hi Hannah!

WELCOME!!!

I am Dara ( I will be 35 in December) and DH is 38. We have one DS named Trevor.............he will be 20 months on August 6. We are working on TTC our second one now. You will LOVE this board!! All of the ladies on here are so knowledgeable, understanding, helpful and lovable!!

I had a similar situation as you. My doctor (whom I LOVE) can only deliver at one hospital in my town (a SUPER large one), while I really wanted to have DS at a smaller, community hospital. I stayed with my doctor and I had my DS at the bigger hospital. I was very pleased with everything!! The nurses and staff were very nice and attentive!! I can give them nothing but praise!! I think maybe I was afraid becaue I have had such terrible past experiences and heard such bad things about the big hospital............but it turned out the Women's Pavillion which specializes in Labor/Delivery & Tri-age is a whole seperate building/wing and it was wonderful. I have no worries about having my nexy baby there and I am actually looking forward to it.

I had to have a c-section, so I delivered in the OR, but I got to keep the baby with me the whole time once, I got to my room and he got out of NICU. He had to stay in ther about 24 hours because he was born with fluid on his lungs. I got to go and see him as soon as I was out of recovery and I got to feed him that night as well.

Hope this helps!!

Hannah! I'm Becky (37), DH is Tony (also 37). We're currently WTTC. We have 1 DS who will be 15 months tomorrow. The ladies here are wonderful, so I hope you feel right at home here with us.

As far as your doctor/hospital situation, I think the doctor (and his office) are very important. You absolutely want someone you're comfortable with since you'll be seeing them quite a bit during your pg. With the hospital, I agree that you should discuss these concerns with your doc. Most of the hospitals here (and I had a few to choose from), are all now set up where the baby stays with you the entire time. It may be like that at this other hospital to. You can oftentimes check online, the hospital may have a website, and you can also probably call for more info as well. DH & I also visited both hospitals our doctor had delivering rights to so we were comfortable with either one.

Good luck & I look forward to getting to know you.

Mine too, so I totally agree that it's great to have a support system full of people who know exactly what you are going through.

Hi and Welcome!!!!
I'm Sam (40) and Dh is Jim (41), we have a almost 19 month old and are working on TTC #2.

I hope the hospital your doctor is now at has updated their policies! I go to a doctor 30 minutes away because I like them better , and I like the hospital better. But I also learned that once your in the hospital, you rarely see the doctor, and it depends on their policies if they are even the one that delivers you, may have rotating schedules wit other doctors who cover their patients.

Hi Sam!
Thanks for your answer. I do know that my dr is at a large practice that rotates (that's why she picked it, I think - she has children too, she wants to see them, I get that part). Actually you hit the nail on the head! I'm questioning whether to give up my preferred hospital when I may not get the dr I know for delivery. Most or all ob practices in my area are like this. I've accepted that part, but giving ip my dr completely is a tough choice. I have checked out the "new" hospital online and it says they have "some" new suites (6 I think) but the majority of their rooms are the old fashioned setup.
Grrr I'm so conflicted!!! But thanks for the input.
