Hi Everyone! I am new here at JustMommies and have only posted a few times over on the Pregnancy Over 35 board but wanted to come over here and say hi, too! I haven't read through all of the posts, and I'm sure there is a lot of information and things to learn, but I do have a question.

But first, just a bit about me. I am 43 years old and my husband and I have been married for 18 years. We have a son (age 9 1/2) and a daughter (age almost 7 1/2.) We also have one angel baby, as I had a miscarriage in April, 2008 at 10 weeks. It was devastating, to say the least. We had tried to get pregnant for approximately 4-5 months, without any medical assistance, and when it finally it happened I was ecstatic! I was 40 at the time. Since the miscarriage, we have tried on and off (and again, without medical assistance) but has not resulted in a pregnancy - or at least I never tested positive for pregnancy. There were a few times I thought I was pregnant, only to get my period and then never tested (I have always been a "late" tester just to make sure!) Anyway, I know at my age of 43 that the odds of getting pregnant "naturally" are a lot lower than they were in my 30's, when I had my son and daughter. Especially without medical assistance and such.

My question is, have any of you here (especially those of you in your 40's) become pregnant the old fashioned way, without any medical assistance? (Sorry if it seems like I have said "medical assistance" like a thousand times but not sure of all of the terminology here yet!)

Thanks so much for reading my long post and for offering any input!! Have a great day everyone!

Hi and I remember seeing your post in the Pregnancy after 35 board and am glad you decided to join us!!!
I don't have any words of wisdom unfortunately but I wanted to wish you the best of luck! I am pretty sure we have some graduates who have gotten pregnant without MA and hopefully they can help.

I also wanted to tell you I'm so sorry about your loss. I have also gone through a loss, as well as many of us on this board so we all understand how much it hurts.

I wish you the best of luck in conceiving!! I truly hope you can do it naturally!!

to justmommies & our great board here! I'm Becky (37), and am not currently TTC but stick around here anyway. We do have success stories from ladies on this board, so I'm hoping they'll chime in. With me & DH, we deal with severe MFI (male factor infertility) so we have absolutely no choice but to use MA (medical assistance) to get pg. I hope you are able to conceive naturally!! I look forward to getting to know you. Good Luck!!

Hi, I'm new and need help :-)
I was taking YazB birth control and had my period as usual at the end of my pill pack. I started a new pack of pills took it for a week then stop. My husband and I just decided, let's have a baby. 3 days after I stop the pills I got my period again heavy for 5 days then. Om the 5th day I started taken an ovulation test. It said I was ovulating after 4 days of taking the test. We had sex and today the next day I feel like I have the flu. Is it possible I conceived a child last night? I've never been pregnant before and I'm so excited. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Welcome Pajama Mama! I'm Sam (40) and DH is Jim (41), Ive gotten pregnant both ways, with MA and without. DS is a product of MA. we did get pregnant twice on our own before going back to the RE this time once was an early loss, then the next I lost at 9.5 weeks. We are doing MA to increase the likely hood of a sticky pregnancy (my issue is bad eggs). Welcome tot he board!

Good luck! It's possible, and some women claim to 'know' when they conceived. But rarely do any symptoms show up that soon. Most pregnancy symptoms are tied to the increase of pregnancy hormone in your system which doesn't start until the embryo implants- which usually takes place 8-14 days after fertilization. Hence the dreaded two week wait that you will see all over JM.
Welcome to JM!!

Hi Val! I didn't introduce myself either! My name is Sarah and I'm 37 (almost 38), TTC my first after a loss, and I live in Maine. I hope you love this board as much as I do.

welcome to our small (but awesome) group! I'm Lara (38) DH is Matt (39) and we have DD Savannah who is 21 months old...and now we're TTC a sibling for her With Savannah we didn't have any medical assistance (I was 36 when she was conceived, 37 when she was born), and right now we're setting down the same path again although it remains to be seen if we'll need any.

Good luck to you as you TTC....there's a lot of info to be had in this group (and in other forums on JM) to help you.

Hi Lara! Nice to meet you! Does your name rhyme with Dara and Sarah? Or is it pronounced more like Laura? Anyway, thanks for the welcome and sharing a bit about yourself! I was pregnant with my son at age 33 (born 2 months after turning 34) and pregnant with my daughter at age 35 (born 4 months after turning 36.) I guess back then, because I had never had children before, I never gave it much thought about not being able to get pregnant and both DS and DD were conceived on the first month of trying. Then when I was 39, it took 5 cycles before becoming pregnant but we lost the baby at 10 weeks ( I had turned 40 by then.) It's amazes to me how easy it was with the first two but now, at age 43, not so much!!! We never used any medical assistance but not sure if that can ever be the case now for us. I wish you all the best in TTC a sibling for your little cutie!!

That funny that you said that about our names rhyming! When people see my name, 90% of the time they ask me how to pronounce it. This is ALWAYS my answer........it is like Sara (or Sarah) but with a D as the first letter. LOL
