Be safe and let us know how you all are after the storm. Hugs to you and your little ones, furbabies or other special people in your life. I am roughly 400 miles from the Outer Banks (gotta love a nice wide state) so I might get a little wind and rain but nothing else.

I was thinking of you sweetie, and hoping you were further inland. We will most likely get heavy rains and some high winds, they keep changing the forecast so it may be 30 or could be 50 mph winds so we expect to lose power. I may not be online for a couple of days but I'll check in when I can.
I think the further east coast ladies, will probably have more problems. Be safe!!!

Thanks for thinking of us!! Irene should be here tomorrow and I'm not anticipating anything really bad. I hope I'm right! We're on the coast, but far enough from the shore that we don't have to worry about storm surges or anything. I'm more concerned about my BF's lobster boat, but he assures me it's safe where he keeps it.
I just saw on the news that it has weakened a bit. It's in NC now and the winds are 90mph, down from 100. The winds should be about 70mph when it gets here. They also mentioned that there is a confirmed death of a surfer in Virginia. I just don't get it. What is wrong with people? It's a tragedy that was so easy to avoid. You don't go surfing in a hurricane! It makes me so sad.
I hope everyone stays safe!!!!

surfing in a hurricane! That person obviously wasn't thinking. It's sad to hear. It does look like the hurricane has weakend some but will still be messy. We're just waiting for it to arrive, it's cloudy & winds are starting to pick up. No rain yet, but it'll be here soon. I do expect to lose power, so I'll check back in when I can. Be safe everyone!!

This was the weather report for my little town. I just love mitchellweather.com lol
Irene Hammers Hatteras; Nice ’N’ Quiet Here In WNC
Hurricane Irene will continue pound the eastern third of the state with heavy rainfall and wind, but here in the west, today will be nice despite the abundance of high cloudiness. Northerly winds will get a little gusty as the day wears on. Sunday looks spectacular with bright sunshine and low humidity.

That's great! I wish it was my forecast!
Thanks Dara. Things seem to be slowing down with Irene so when she reaches up here, it won't be bad at all. We've had blizzards worse than this so it'll be a piece of cake. We should have some decent wind gusts so I'm still anticipating some power outages, but nothing dangerous. It's been raining here all morning and I'm sure that will get worse by the time she gets here too. I'm so glad she wasn't as bad as everyone predicted, although I did hear of more fatalities and that's always so sad.
I hope everyone else is staying safe and dry!!!

We lost power (still don't have it back), but other then that thankfully no damage. There are lots of downed trees & power lines though, so it may be while before things are completely back to normal. Daycare & work both had power, so we're back to our normal routine for the most part. DH & I just plan to leave work early (2:30 for me, instead of 4) so we have an extra couple of hours of daylight when we get home. I was so happy to see that she weakened further once she left Maryland and that it wasn't as bad as originally estimated to be.

Becky I hope your power comes back soon! I'm glad you are safe though...that's the most important thing.
We lost power from about 3-9 yesterday. There was a lot of reading by candlelight going on! My BF and I went out to check on his boat a couple of times...once in the afternoon and again at night. The surf was very rough but nothing like what I saw on TV. At night, we went at high tide and it was insanely high! The boat yard where he keeps his boat was close to being flooded. Luckily it was at the height of the tide so it surely receded quickly. We definitely lucked out here.
I hope everyone else is doing well and that the damage is minimal!!!

Well...it didn't hit as bad as everyone thought it was going to, which is a good thing considering what things look like now. We only lost power for about an hour DH said, as I was working all weekend. Amazing how many people will still come shopping or groceries during the storm. We ended up losing a tree in the front yard. My FIL, DH, and a couple of friends took it down before it took out Matty's room and/or the garage. My sister lost 2 trees, damaged 2 cars and killed the pool. Apparently it wasn't that bad during the storm at the house as I found out later on that my lovely FIL was outside with Matty flying a kite!!! hahahahaha...guess it wasn't bad...Now waiting and watching the weather again, as there are two more stirring up in the Atlantic and Katia looks like it may come towards the East Coast again...Hopefully she stays away and Lee too....

I noticed those other 2 tropical storms this morning. I hope they stay out to sea away from land.
DH & I decided that we're going to call around for estimates on a permanent generator that'll hook up to the natural gas line, or we may purchase a small gas powered one like what we've borrowed from a friend. If this was the wintertime though, we're a ways from the closest gas station for a refill. So, we'll see what prices we get.
