Hi Everyone,

I'm 40 (almost 41) and my fiance is 40. We just started trying for what would be my 3rd and his 1st.

My question is about the OPD. I should O anytime in the next few days and I was testing in the morning, but then I read somewhere that it's better in the afternoon.

Is it really better to test in the afternoon?

Hi Cassie

I am Laura (42) and DH is Anthony (41). We are also trying for my 3rd but our 1st together. I am hoping to O in the next couple of days as well.

From what I understand your LH is produced early morning, and does not metabolize into urine until later in the day. You should try testing in the afternoon to catch your surge. But is probably best to read the instructions on the OPK as some may require FMU.

GL!

Totally agree!!

Welcome!!! I usally got positive tests in the afternoon vs the morning. Depending on what type you are using sometimes it's even better to test twice a day especially if you have a short surge.

Thanks...I think I will try both morning and 12 hours later when I get home from work.

I am 4 days to O and starting to have signs that I'm close so we are on an every night schedule, which I have to admit is a lot of fun. We are finding its bringing us closer.

Now if only the OPD would give me a positive result so I know that things are working

I just realized I typed OPD and I meant OPK......

I'm still new to these terms

Happy Friday everyone

I agree with the others. I've heard of one brand that says to test in the morning (I think it's Answer, but I'm not totally sure) but most say to test in the afternoon. I usually test twice a day when I know I'm getting close and I have tested in the morning and caught the surge before. If there's enough of it, it'll show up.

I wish you the best of luck TTC! If you have any questions or need support, we are here for you!

I think most of the brands say afternoon, I can't say personally as they never worked consistently for me. Good luck & I hope you get that positive OPK soon and catch that eggie.

Hi!

I had my first baby at age 45 and worked with an RE to get pregnant. My RE instructed me to test in the evenings. I didn't read his instructions carefully enough and made the mistake of testing in the morning during my first month working with him. As a result, I missed my opportunity for an insemination that morning and I believe that I missed a key day of fertility (I used IUI). The next month when I tested in the evening and went in the next morning for an insemination, I got pregnant!

I wish you all luck and blessings! You can read my story and some of my key learnings about pregnancy over 40 at pregnancyover40now

Thanks for sharing that Deborah! OPK's are definitely a great tool and I agree, very important to follow the instructions, especially with something so time sensitive as IUI. Congratulations on your pregnancy!! Can you share a link to your story?
