Hi,

I’ve been lurking for awhile, but finally decided to post and introduce myself and become part of the group.

I’m 38.5yrs old and DH is 40 and we’ve decided to trying to have a second child. Our first is 13 years old. I was on Depo for over 10 years. I’m in the Army and stopped Depo over two years ago prior to a deployment. It took approximately 10 months to start having regular cycles again. I was still deployed so no possibility of getting pregnant so I just tracked periods which were/are 24-26 days each month for 3 days. I got back in Nov10 and because I wanted to enjoy some wine and foods that aren’t great for pregnancy for a little while, we used protection until Mar11. So it’s been about 7 months and we are still trying.

Our first pregnancy happened literally two weeks after stopping OBC pills, I figured this time I might not be so lucky, but was not thinking 7 months…I know it’s not extremely long, but now I think I may not be ovulating. Is it possible to not be Oing and still have regular periods? For the first couple of months, I still didn’t track anything we just BD’d as much as possible, after no BFP I decided to track CM and BBT, and it seems that I never really get EWCM, about the time I’m suppose to O I get a lot of creamy CM, but not what I would call EWCM, I even you tubed to see what exactly I was suppose to be seeing, and no didn’t match the EWCM on there, and I have kind of up and down BBT but within normal fluctuation from what I can tell, but never have a spike in temp showing O, but I’m bad at doing it the same time every day, so I pledged to myself to start that.

To make matters a little more frustrating, I’m in the process of moving from one post to another with a school in between so I can’t see a medical provider until Dec…frustrating!! Anyway, I decided to get some ovulation prediction kits to see if this will show me that I’m ovulating. But I’m a little confused on which to buy…I see there are fertility prediction test and ovulation test….are they the same? Anyone have any advise on which I should be purchase?
OK…sorry this is so long, like I said I’ve been lurking for awhile and TTC for a while so everything is building.

Thanks so much for reading and any advise is greatly appreicated!

Hi and !! I'm so glad you decided to join our amazing group of women!! TTC is really tough and when you get to be our age, there is a definite urgency added to it.

Is there any way you can post a link to your chart so we can take a look? If you aren't seeing a definite temperature shift, then I would have to guess that there may be an ovulation problem. It definitely gets a little tricky if there are inconsistencies with temps though. As for the OPK tests, those are great for letting you know when you can expect to ovulate, but I need to warn you that even if you get a positive, that doesn't guarantee that you will definitely ovulate. Basically, you can have an LH surge, but not ovulate. Frustrating, I know. My recommendation would be to continue to monitor your CM, take the OPK tests, and continue taking your temp. I think a lot of women our age have some issues with CM. What I have done to help with that is take Evening Primrose Oil from AF until O, take 2 tablespoons of honey with a little bit of cinnamon on it from AF until O, drink lots of green tea (I drink decaf), and then take Mucinex from about a week before O until O. That combination seems to have helped me quite a bit. I also take Fish Oil capsules, but I'm not sure if that helps with the CM or not...it certainly doesn't hurt and it's great for when you get pregnant.

One more thing...you can take soy isoflavones to try and trigger your body to ovulate. I took 120 mg from CD 3-7 and I ovulated on CD 13. Some women take it days 5-9. You never want to take it longer than 5 days in a row. It hasn't always worked for me, but it is a nice over the counter alternative to Clomid that you can try before you go see your doctor.

I hope that I have been able to help at least a little bit. I'm sure others here will be able to have more to add.

Welcome to the board!Sarah already covered all the opk stuff. (BTW I used the wondfo opk's from Amazon- they are a lot cheaper and work great.)
And don't stress about it taking a while. It rarer to get pregnant right away then it taking a bit. Hope though that your Dec visit ends up being a pre-natal instead of a consult!
