Are you taking them yet? My doctor told me to start taking them when we started trying and she gave me a prescription for one that has extra folic acid in it. It's one that has 2 pills, one for morning and one for night. The morning one is no problem but the one at night I keep almost missing. Last night I did miss it so I just took it now. And that's the important one since it's the one with folic! They make my stomach queasy too. Blech!

I was taking pre-natal but I didn't feel so great on them. I was always nauseous and had headaches so out of a personal choice I switched to a Folic Acid Forte which DH is also now taking with me. I figured the Folic Acid was the most important factor. I could be wrong though.

I started taking prenatals about 3 months before we started to TTC in 2007, and have been on them since. I take over the counter- either nature made or gummy ones depending on whether I'm avoiding the iron or not. My Peri has me add extra folic acid and fish oil. (he also says vit D but I always forget to buy more). I always take them at night because I can't take them with my morning thyroid med. But taking them for so long, if I forget a day or two, I don't worry about it.

I was told the prescription isn't any better than the OTC. But maybe more specific?

My doc advised me to take them for a while before we even started TTC. I took OTC, and took them at night. Less tummy upsets that way. And when I did get pg, I had to add in iron (I took slow-fe).

I used to take OTC but the only way I can get the extra folic acid is with a prescribed one. The only reason I'm supposed to take the extra folic is because DD has a chromosome abnormality. But it's one that doesn't usually repeat itself in any family and it's not a neural tube thing so I'm not sure it matters much. I feel better taking the extra folic acid though so I guess it's a little peace of mind. That's worth something.

When we decided we were going to TTC I happened to be going to the dr that next month so I got several samples and the first one I took was only one pill and it didn't make me sick. I was so excited because I can't take OTC multivitamins so I figured pre-natal would be even worse. I'm taking Concept OB.

My OB also told me it is very important to take prior to getting pregnant because sometimes things happen before you even know you are pregnant so it's best to have those vitamins on board.

GL!!

I use otc New Chapter Prenatal, it's a whole food formula which makes it more useful for our bodies vs. synthetic forms. No queasiness with taking it, it actually has ingredient(s) to help with morning sickness too. All though the dose is 3 times a day so it may not be a good choice for you
