Today is Joes 36th Birthday. He wanted spaghetti made with elbow macaroni, cheesy garlic bread (just like a 5 year old) and coconut pound cake made from scratch. The cake got all messed up so we ran to the store and bought a cocount one at the bakery. I ate a piece after supper and I think there was too much sugar that went straight to my head cause I am GIDDY!!

Im just making sure. I think you are both from away, yes? (away from where i am from?) and i know sometimes termonology can be every so slightly different. I was making sure toasted cheeses wasn't the same as a grilled cheese. Forgive me for being a bit on the dull witted side

I was born and raised in New Jersey in the good ol US of A

I moved to South Africa almost 14 years ago. But wow did I battle with the terminology here compared to the meanings of words in America. When I arrived in SA I stayed with a family from England for a while, worked for an Australian with a few Afrikaans ladies in the office, LOL. I was a very confused person to say the least!

Toasted cheese in SA is like a grilled cheese.

And just some difference in terms that make me laugh:

A flannel in the states is a warm shirt like lumber jacks wear, a flannel to the english family is a face cloth and in SA it has no meaning.

There are a few more but I don't want to offend anyone on here, LOL. But a simple word in the US is a very ugly word here.

I had an English friend once, who used a word for cigarettes that some would use a deragatory name in the us.

Oh hahaha, I know exactly what word you mean. Begins with an F and ends with G, LOL. The English here say that all the time.
