I'm almost 37. My mother went into perimenopause at 40. Took a test last week to assure myself that I was not pg. There really was almost no chance, DH and I did the whole 'pull & pray' thing, which has never been an issue and I didn't O until around 5 days after the last time we DTD (a whopping 2x last month).

I've been having symptoms the last 5/6 months of hitting perimenopause...cycle is short, long heavy AF, fatigue & weight gain despite exercising. Perimenopause I have read can cause false positives...anyone had an experience with this?

Did I mention the test was positive? Sorry

I have an appt. next week with a new OB (closer to my new home). Tried to explain this situation to the receptionist and she didn't really understand, so I guess I need to wait until next week.

Yeah, taken more tests, they were all super faint until today, but that could also be a fluke so who knows. Thanks for all your responses.

I don't have any answers for perimenopause.

I just wanted to wish you well and I hope you get some answers.

If you are pregnant, congratulation!

Pre-menopausal women experience longer or missed cycles. Wide swings in hormones, mostly progesterone and estrogen so your OB will want to test you at CD3, CD 14 and CD21. Pre-menopausal women also experience changes in body functionality: EG: Your hair doesn't grow as fast, or becomes brittle. Intestinal issues, such as IB or Constipation. Changes in body odor, pimples and skin color. Increase or decrease in headaches.

Menopause timing isn't always hereditary and can be brought on by illness or physical trauma. Similarly, if your body shuts down from trauma, it can also recover and get back to normal. ie cancer patients who go on to have babies.

An uptick in LH hormone or HCG is not one of the signs of perimenopause. If you are getting positives on multiple HPTs, you're most likely PG. You should see your OB.

Good Luck!
